Harvest Campaign 2019
Together, we will unlock the inspirational power of good food.
Our annual Harvest Campaign has officially launched and we are asking our community to join us in wrapping up an incredible year at Comfort Food Community.

As we look ahead to 2020, there are many goals we have our sights set on accomplishing. The opening of our Food Center has been a tremendous success, however there is still work to be done. There are programs to be created, resources to be gained and a potential for growth that we are certain we can achieve with your support.
In contributing to Comfort Food Community you become part of a larger vision. You will join a movement towards creating a community of individuals that have the resources and knowledge they need to sustain healthier lifestyles. In result, we can directly impact the lives of our youth and influence the well-being of our future generations.
Will you join us in nourishing our community through the power of good food?

Edible Education is off to a delicious start!

At the beginning of October Comfort Food Community and the Greenwich Youth Center launched 'Edible Education', a collaborative youth cooking program at the Food Center.

The program offers educational, healthy and fun opportunities for kids in the kitchen; giving them a hands-on cooking experience.

Before hopping into the kitchen, our kid chefs designed and created their own aprons by making stencils and using light-tracing (a bonus art lesson from our talented volunteer, Naomi Meyer!).

Apron design was followed by a 'Make Your Own Trail Mix' party using tasty ingredients like nuts, pretzels and dried fruit.
During our second class, we learned about 'seasonal produce' and tried different veggies like kale, broccoli, peppers and scallions. We then used those veggies as healthy toppings for our homemade english muffin pizzas!
We're looking forward to many more classes and can't wait to see what is on our next menu! A huge thank you to GYC, our volunteers and the Interfaith Community for allowing us to use their vehicle (that the kids have named "the luxury limo van'" ) for transportation.

We are looking for volunteers to help with future classes! If you enjoy working with kids and being in the kitchen please feel free to reach out to Haley at haley@comfortfoodcommunity.org to learn more.
Thank you to our Community Partners!

As always, thank you's are in order for those in our community who contribute to the success of Comfort Food Community. We're lucky to have so many talented and involved individuals who are willing to provide their skills and resources to help improve our services.
This month, Viking Metal fabricated part of our new and improved cooking demonstration table at the Food Center. This awesome set-up is used to provide cooking demos and food samples to our guests during pantry service.

We would also like to acknowledge Battenkill Country Club for hosting their 'Chip and Sip' event which benefited the Greenwich Food Pantry. Participants and members collected 252 pounds of food!
