the digest.

together we will transform food and food will transform us.

Hi everyone! There's only 23 days left until the first day of spring... but who's counting, right? This winter has been a doozy, but luckily that hasn't stopped us from keeping our doors open! This is largely in thanks to CFC's team of loyal volunteers and staff members for their commitment to getting food and resources to those who need it most-in the snow, ice, rain, or shine they make it happen!

We're looking forward to warmer and brighter days ahead. There's nothing quite like that first warm, sunny day after a long, dreary winter when even 50 degree weather feels like summer! Similar to the change in weather, we transition and react to the ever-evolving seasons of our lives. Every ending offers opportunity for a new beginning giving us the ability to find that silver lining on even the coldest and darkest of days.

Sending sunshine your way
☀️Thank you for being here!
Fresh Food Farmacy is Back for Round Three!

Beginning in March, CFC’s Community Health team will begin its third round of the Fresh Food Farmacy program in partnership with the Hudson Headwaters Health Network.

The Fresh Food Farmacy pairs dietary and culinary education with one-on-one health instruction and guidance to individuals through a long-term care program.
Over the next 6 months, individuals will receive produce shares every two weeks, built from produce and products from more than 20 local farms and vendors. Additionally, participants will receive recipes, health coaching from a registered dietician, and resource support for care planning.

Highlighting the importance of good food, healthy outcomes, and food as medicine, individuals are chosen specifically to address chronic illness such as diabetes, heart disease, and others. A unique program in the region as well as the country, the Fresh Food Farmacy offers clinical and behavior evidence that underscores the healthy impact of fresh food.
CFC Fresh Food Champion: Denison Farm

We would like to give a special thanks to Denison Farm for their generosity and support throughout the past few months. As one of CFC's fresh food partners, Denison Farm has donated an incredible amount of winter produce to our food pantries and
community health programs.
Most recently, we received 1,140 lbs. of carrots and 960 lbs. of butternut squash from their farm. These amazing contributions help CFC to provide fresh food to thousands of individuals in our community.
Thank you, Denison Farm!
Supporting Local Business and Farms

Another one of CFC's Fresh Food partners is making big moves! Did you know that Argyle Cheese Farmer operates their own brick and mortar store in Hudson Falls? Located at 2358 Burgyone Ave, Argyle Cheese Farmer Store & Bakery offers a variety of products like aged cheese, yogurt, dips, spreads, prepared foods, and baked goods.

CFC has worked with Argyle Cheese Farmer to provide healthy, fresh food during our Summer Meal Program for local students, as well as distribution of products to our partner libraries and senior centers.
We can't wait to visit and wish them the best of luck!
Virtual Edible Education: Southwest Style Sweet Potatoes & Easy Oat Pancakes
We've been busy in the kitchen! This month CFC joined Schuylerville Public Library and Hudson Crossing Park during their weekly 'Family Story Time' to share healthy and simple recipes for our community members to make at home!

Student-led Fundraiser for Comfort Food Community
Local student, Mandy Ennis, is hosting a fundraiser in which donations will be used towards the purchase of personal hygiene products for CFC's Supplemental Student Nutrition Program. Mandy recognized that in addition to receiving food on the weekends, students are likely in need of items such as shampoo, toothpaste, soap, and hand sanitizer.
Her goal is to raise $1,000 to be able to provide these valuable additions for participating students.
