CECAN :: transforming the practice of policy evaluation in the Nexus to make it fit for a complex world

Welcome to the
Centre for the Evaluation of Complexity Across the Nexus

CECAN is a £3m national research centre hosted by the University of Surrey, bringing together a unique coalition of experts to address some of the greatest issues in policy making and evaluation, with the goal of improving Nexus based policies for future generations.

Since the project began in March, the CECAN team have been setting up the centre, recruiting and welcoming new staff, designing and launching a website, crafting a seminar series, planning silo breaking workshops, exploring training opportunities, starting a reading group, launching a Fellowship Scheme and PhD Programme,  devising a high profile event in September and much more!
CECAN Fellowship Scheme

As part of its aim to develop and spread innovative methods of policy evaluation, CECAN has established a Fellowship Scheme enabling academics, evaluators, policymakers and evidence analysts to spend time within CECAN’s research teams.

CECAN Workshop:
Complexity in Evaluation

CECAN will be hosting a 2 day residential workshop in September, bringing together evidence teams, policymakers, complexity scientists, evaluation experts and experts in Nexus subjects to foster innovative thinking across boundaries and develop new ways to frame policy evaluation in terms of complexity.
CECAN Reading Group

We've hosted the first of a series of virtual reading group discussions, on the topic of "Complexity theory in applied policy worldwide" by Yaneer Bar-Yam.
