As we welcome in May and all that springtime brings, I’m reminded of another important component of the proposed 2019-20 spending plan: additional funding for social/emotional learning competencies and programming.
Empathy, kindness, and meaningful connection are main components of our focus on social/emotional learning. Teachers and staff weave these themes into our students’ daily lives through curriculum and conversation. Recently, first graders at Seely Place explored “How To Give A Compliment” as part of their unit on how to write to explain. At Greenville, the glass panels around the Habitat were recently filled with students’ thoughts about the importance of kindness and respect. As one student wrote, “Kindness is free. Sprinkle that stuff everywhere!”
This year’s social/emotional learning efforts included impactful consultancies and workshops for students, staff, and parents. Next year, we plan to expand our efforts, as we re-commit to ensuring the academic, social, and emotional well-being of every student.
Additional highlights of the 2019-20 spending plan also include:
Continued Safety/Security Monitors at EHS
All Current Academic, Athletic, and Co-curricular Activities
Science 21 in Grades K-3
Robotics/Coding and Expanded “STEAM” programs in Grades 5-8
Programming to foster Social/Emotional Learning Skills, Attitudes, and Behaviors
Continued Inclusion of ICAP Students at Greenville and EHS
Creation of Innovative Flexible Space Within Existing Space at all Three Schools.

PLEASE VOTE ON MAY 21, 2019 between 6:00 am and 9:00 pm at Edgemont Jr/Sr High School. New York State requires a public vote with a majority of yes votes in order for us to enact our budget proposal and spending plan. More information about music and art exhibitions on the day of the vote will be forthcoming.
It was great to see so many of you at the PTA/PTSA Spring Fete!
