Dear Families,

I hope you all are enjoying your summer. We ended the 2017-18 school year on a high note, with inspiring graduation speeches, Moving Up ceremonies and exciting end-of-year traditions at all three schools.

I wanted to take this opportunity to again congratulate the Edgemont High School Class of 2018. I find myself still thinking about the moving speeches given at Graduation. Mina Lee, one of the class speakers, reminded her fellow graduates not to “limit themselves because they are a brilliant star trying to fit into the mold of a brilliant square, or a brilliant circle trying to fit within the borders of a triangle.” This image of individual brilliance resonates with me as I think about our entire school community and all we have to celebrate in Edgemont.

Please take some time to look at the photo galleries from the Sixth Grade Moving Up Ceremonies at Seely Place and Greenville, and from the EHS Graduation. Peruse the impressive list of colleges and universities where the Class of 2018 is headed. Read about our “Jewels of the Heart” -- over eighty students were honored throughout the year for their acts of caring, courage and citizenship. This edition of the E-News is in no way meant to mark the end of summer; it’s just a chance for us to pause for a moment to celebrate and appreciate our brilliance -- whether in the shape of a star, triangle or square.

Enjoy the rest of the summer!

The Classes of 2018

Graduation and Moving Up ceremonies at all three of our schools were fabulous. Each celebration provided a memorable, poignant way to cap off one educational chapter before another one begins. Check out these photo galleries from Greenville, Seely Place, and EHS.

Where They’re Headed

Congratulations to the Edgemont High School Class of 2018! We are so proud of all of our graduates. Here are the impressive colleges and universities to which our students are headed.

Jewels of the Heart Honorees 2017-18

Edgemont’s Jewels of the Heart program, which commenced with the 2017-18 school year, recognizes caring citizenship in daily acts by students demonstrating courage, kindness and integrity.  Students who are recommended by their teachers and administrators for Jewels of the Heart are recognized publicly at Board of Education meetings, and recipients receive a letter to commemorate this honor. Learn more about this program here.

We are proud to announce that 82 students were recognized for their commendable behavior. A complete list of their names is available here.

iRules Author Coming To Edgemont

This Fall, our district will welcome Janell Burley Hoffman, author of iRules: What Every Tech Healthy Family Needs to Know About Selfies, Sexting, Gaming and Growing Up.

In this book, Ms. Burley Hoffman provides families with insight into finding a balance between technology and human interaction. Her philosophy, which she calls Slow-Tech Parenting, helps parents navigate limit-setting, as it applies to children’s access, privacy, and time spent with technology. Parents are encouraged to read the book before Ms. Burley Hoffman’s visit. Copies are available on Amazon - remember to use the PTA, PTSA, or Edgemont Scholarship Council Amazon links when making your purchase.
