Dear <<First Name>>,
Every semester, there is a team of LLI members without whom we could not function. They are the class managers, and thank you for having taken part in that team. Class managers distribute resources from presenters, notify members of changes in logistics, track attendance, maintain communication with producers, stand by to deal with last-minute problems, and are the friendly welcome at the door we’ve all come to expect. The LLI membership has always been grateful for their service.
Then came Covid-19. The world turned upside down, and LLI had to act quickly to decide our next step. SummerFest proved to be the perfect trial balloon. An Online team was quickly formed and worked 24/7 to evaluate, design, and test a Zoom-based experience aimed at our membership. Traditional committee structures and procedures needed to be changed, and soon it was apparent the traditional role of class manager needed to morph into what is now called the session manager.
The role of the session manager is not all that different from the role of the class manager, but it requires new skills. Part host, part technological liaison, and part audience manager are just a few of those skills. The 13 session managers who volunteered for SummerFest proved that with training and practice, it was relatively easy to get the job done. And they did. The SummerFest experience was a success for everyone.
So now comes a new challenge. The fall semester will soon be here, and everything we have learned underlines the need for the new role of session managers. Anyone with a willingness to learn new things can do it. It’s not difficult. We have a team that will train you and what you need to know can easily be learned. A little practice will put that knowledge to work at a critical time in the LLI experience. If you are interested in becoming a session manager for the fall semester, please click on the link below. We hope you decide to join the Online team.
Thanks, and stay safe.
