Africans Rising is a growing and self-selecting collective of social movements, NGOs, peoples and popular social justice movements, intellectuals, artists, sports people, cultural activists and others, across the continent and Diaspora.

12 May 2017

African Liberation Day
This year, on 25 May 2017, we aim to send a loud & clear message that we, the people of Africa are cooperating, acting in solidarity and working together to build Pan-Afrikan unity.  We are building the future we want - a right to peace, social inclusion and shared prosperity. An Africa-wide solidarity movement.

We invite you to:

  • join the Africans Rising movement to mobilise our people around this shared vision
  • organise and connect local struggles under this umbrella
  • galvanise solidarity with all African struggles
  • wear red on 25th May 2017
  • spread the word with this Thunderclap!

Invitation: Gorée Island, Dakar
Dakar, Senegal – A site internationally renown as a symbol of enslavement, will host the launch of a new Pan-African movement determined to build a united Africa - all her peoples, nations & nationalities.

As part of its continent-wide launch on 25 May 2017, Africans Rising for Justice, Peace & Dignity will host co-curated healing and visioning programme on Gorée Island, off the coast of Senegal. Together with key partners and supporters from the youth, arts, faith based and gender movements – the activities form part of the launch activities taking place in more than 30 countries on the continent.

There is a real acknowledgement of the healing that needs to happen if we are to move forward, with purpose and urgency to build robust and resilient Pan-Afrikan unity for justice, peace & dignity, said Muhammed Lamin Siadykhan – Africans Rising Coordinator, adding that “Africans from the continent and the Diaspora, it is significant that we gather at a site that is a symbol of our brutal past in order to affirm our commitment to peace, justice and dignity and to build the future we want.”

There are a limited number of spaces left for self-funding guests to join this significant gathering of people supporting  #AfricansRising on Gorée. If you would like to join, please reach out to Emira Woods or Sola Folayan.
