Crafting Characters & Sustaining Tension with Bilal Baig

This workshop will focus on adopting a practise that will cultivate authentic character voices and tips on how to build scenes that will leave your audiences at the edge of their seats! Participants will need something to write with/on. This workshop will be held on Zoom.

About the instructor:

Bilal Baig (they/them) is a queer, trans-feminine, Muslim playwright, performer and workshop facilitator. Bilal's first play, Acha Bacha, had its world premiere in 2018 and has been published by Playwrights Canada Press. Other written work in development includes Kainchee Lagaa, Kitne Saare Laloo Yahan Pey Hain, and I want that free mind! Bilal is a core member at non-profits such as Story Planet and Rivers of Hope, where they develop and facilitate workshops for youth in under-resourced neighbourhoods in Toronto focused on creative writing and literacy (Story Planet) and combatting Islamophobia through the arts (Rivers of Hope).

Meet Our 2021 Indie Producers!

The Indie Producer's Co-op is back for its seventh year, and we're thrilled to welcome Isaac Pilozo and Sabrina Weinstein as the 2021 Indie Producers! They will begin their training in May, learning about fundraising, event planning, and theatre management. We can't wait to see what they do in the coming weeks!
Isaac (he/him) is a Toronto-based actor and director. He is a graduating student from the University of Toronto - St. George Campus with a major in Performance Acting and double minors in English and Equity Studies. Select acting credits from UofT's Centre for Drama, Theatre, and Performance Studies include Laertes (Hamlet), Macbeth (Macbeth), and as Puck, Peter Quince, and Philostrate (A Midsummer Night's Dream)
Sabrina (she/her) is a producer, director and actor. She is finishing her fourth year of study at the University of Toronto’s Centre for Drama Theatre and Performance Studies. She has been working as a producer for the past two years, Executive Producing at The UC Follies Theatre Company, as well as co-founding and producing for Quirky Cabaret - a non-for-profit sketch comedy theatre company.
