AUDITION NOTICE

Theatre by the Bay (TBTB), in partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, the City of Barrie, and the RBC Emerging Artist Program, is holding auditions for two productions as part of The Simcoe County Virtual Theatre Initiative to be filmed at the Five Points Theatre in July 2021, and broadcast at a selected date.

NOTE: Due to current restrictions, only actors from within the Simcoe County bubble will be cast.

TBTB is a professional regional theatre organization focused on the development and production of new plays about Barrie and the Simcoe County region (land covered by Treaties 16, 18 and Williams).

Rehearsals: Hybrid of virtual and in-person as restrictions ease and the project tears tech and performances. Rehearsals will occur throughout June/July, and run 2-3 days per week.
Tech / Performance Dates: July 25th-31st, 2021. Performances will be filmed to be broadcast at a selected date.
Payment: Honorarium

The deadline to submit auditions is Sunday, May 30th at 11:59pm.

Two Girls One Corpse

Written by Marissa Caldwell and Michelle Blanchard
Directed by Keara Voo
(RBC Emerging Artist)

Two Girls, One Corpse is a goofy comedy-mystery about two girls who go to the wedding of an ex-boyfriend, drink until they blackout, and wake up in their apartment with a dead body. What happened? Who killed him? Stick with these two (wannabe) super-sleuths to find out!

The Characters:
(please note: the ages listed below are for the characters and should be considered as a reference.)

  • Kenzie: 20s, female-identifying, any ethnicity. Lead. Kenzie is Kasey's best friend of 6+ years, and she also is the groom's ex-girlfriend; the same groom who winds up dead in their apartment. Kenzie is fun, energetic, imaginative and a little bit dramatic. She is in town visiting Kasey for the wedding, as she recently moved to the big city to pursue her dreams; and, like most people her age, she worries that her life isn't progressing in the ways that she expected. An actor who can sell the audience on their impressions (even if they're bad) is a bonus.
  • Kasey: 25, female-identifying, any ethnicity. Lead. Kasey is Kenzie's best friend and is responsible for getting them the invitation to this wedding, as well as the owner of the apartment they're both staying in. She is grounded, sarcastic, fairly easygoing and also a little bit dramatic. She misses the way things used to be before they graduated school and Kenzie left and they both had to step into the real world. An actor who can sell the audience on their impressions (even if they're bad) is a bonus.
Audition Times:
Tues. June 2nd, 2pm-6pm
Wed. June 3rd, 2pm-6pm

Submission Guidelines

To be considered for an audition, please submit ONE (1) PDF file that includes both an updated headshot (or recent high-quality photo) and resumé, and a brief cover letter with your general availability for auditions and rehearsals as well as the role(s) you would like to be seen for. TBTB promotes an environment of equity, inclusion, and diversity. Artists from under-represented communities are encouraged to apply for an audition time. If anyone requires any accommodations or has any questions please feel free to reach out to us in advance of the deadline.

Please send email submissions to auditions@theatrebythebay.com. If you specify a time-preference, TBTB will do its best to accommodate, but flexibility is appreciated.

We thank all applicants for their interest; however, only successful candidates will be contacted to arrange an audition. Please do not call or email the theatre to confirm receipt of the package. All successful applicants will be sent audition sides with confirmation of their audition appointment.
