 The Barrie Theatre Lab

April 2021 edition - #43

Come see what we have in store for this month, and what is going on across Simcoe County!

Hello <<First Name>> ,

Well, Spring certainly is being a little indecisive, but the warm days are getting more consistent and that is certainly welcome.

I hope that, with all the good things that come from warmth and sunshine, you have had the chance to be creative!

We have some fantastic scripts in store for you this month, and a TON of things going on in the community, all which is amazing! Keep up the great work, friends.

On that note,
The March Barrie Theatre Labs will be on:
Monday April 5th at 7 PM

Please note the start time and please make sure to register through our website BEFORE the event!

TBTB's Spark Session
Tuesday April 13th, 2021
7:00 - 9:30 PM

Theatre by the Bay's Spark Sessions are (virtual) hangouts to help you "spark" writing ideas for your next creative adventure!

There are short, facilitated writing sessions to help get the juices flowing, followed by free writing time.

There may also be a discussion at the end. Think of this as an "accountability session"--time to create!

Four Play Fridays
Presented by South Simcoe Theatre
April 16th and May 21st at 7 PM

As with most theatre companies, The South Simcoe Theatre in Cookstown was no exception in cancelling their on-stage 2020-21 season.  However, we are excited to announce that SST will be presenting Four Play Fridays starting in February!  Their annual play reading festival originally scheduled for June 2020 may have been postponed, but they aren’t letting that stand in their way.

Monthly, from February through May, they will feature live streamed presentations of an eclectic variety of plays for you to enjoy from the comfort of your home. They invite you join them on the South Simcoe Theatre YouTube Channel and help celebrate the works of some very talented Canadian playwrights, brought to life by an equally talented group of actors and directors.  For those who participate in TBTB’s monthly Theatre Lab, you will recognize a number of local playwrights who have used Theatre Lab as a launching point for the development and refinement of many of their works.

This will also be a fundraiser for The South Simcoe Theatre so any amount you can contribute to help keep this beloved community theatre afloat during this trying time will gratefully accepted. Details on how to access the performances, the full lineup, and how to donate to this pay-what-you-can event will be posted on their website at, as well as on their Facebook and Instagram pages closer to the first performance.

Keep April 16th and May 21st at 7:30 pm free - because who doesn’t need a little Four Play in their lives!

Dinner à la Art is a brand-new community partnership project, that will bring a curated selection of exclusive, online readings with iconic Canadian and international artists to homes around the world from April 7 to 11, 2021.

An important component of this project is to stimulate the economic recovery of the region’s hardest-hit, privately owned restaurants, and retailers. Admission to any of the Dinner à la Art readings will be with the purchase of a meal or a gift card, with a $30 CAD minimum,  from one of the many participating fine restaurants or retailers.
