The Lost Heroes of Oro

Here's what you need to know

The Lost Heroes of Oro is an original work, written and directed by Alinka Angelova, that tells the origin story of the Black community in Oro during the 1800s.

Workshopping for this production will take place in Barrie beginning January 17, 2022 on a part-time basis (3-4 times a week). Move-in to the theatre will happen on February 5, 2022, at which point work will become full-time. Video and photography will take place throughout for future utilization on the project.

Presentations of The Lost Heroes of Oro are scheduled from February 17-20, 2022, at the Five Points Theatre in Barrie.

Compensation

Pay is approximately $800/week. Pay will be prorated for the initial part-time rehearsal period.

Characters

  • OLD RICHARD - a Black leader, older man who unites his community to better their conditions.
  • YOUNG RICHARD - a Black man, freed from slavery in the USA, who struggles to better his community.
  • UNDAE - a Black man, freed from slavery in the USA, who is willing to fight for his community.
  • MASTER BILLY - a White man, swing character who represents the dominant culture.
  • NYOTA/SADIE - a Black woman who is bound in slavery/a young contemporary woman learning about the local historic Black community.
  • RUMI/CHANTELLE - a Black woman who escapes slavery through the Underground Railroad/a young contemporary woman learning about the local historic Black community.
All parts are singing roles, and actors will be double cast in supporting roles.
Submissions are due on Monday, December 13th at 5pm EST. Auditions will take place online on Thursday, December 16th between 10am-5pm EST.
