For many, the December holidays are considered a magical time of the year... and there is something enchanting about twinkling lights, shiny boxes, and familiar melodies. However, fiber artists take that magic to the next level: using just sticks or a hook, yarn, and a little inspiration, we can make ANYTHING. And isn't that magic?

This month at Cozy, we are celebrating the magic of making with two new trunk shows, featuring Oregon dyers and both themed to the immersive wizarding world created by author J.K. Rowling. On Sunday, December 8th, we are hosting an afternoon with Maryann Heryford of Salem's Tea.Hooks. Maryann has several stunning colorways inspired by the Fantastic Beasts books and films, in addition to her other pretty yarns. The following weekend, Saturday and Sunday, December 14th and 15th, Cozy will be receiving a traveling trunk show from Portland's Knitted Wit, with a houseful of Hogwarts- and Harry Potter-themed sock yarns (great gifts for your favorite witches and wizards).

As a complement to the trunk shows, with a nod to the season's gift-givers, we're bringing in a selection of other tools and treasures for fiber artists: new shawl pins from Crafty Flutterby Creations, project bags by ErikaShmerika, and even glow-in-the-dark knitting needles (for times when Lumos isn't working). New items will be apparating throughout the month!
This month, through Tuesday, December 31, Cozy is holding a Hats and Mitts Collection for the First Place Family Center, a resource offering housing and support for Lane County families in need. First Place would love a supply of handmade hats and mittens (or fingerless mitts) in warm fibers and in all sizes (babies to adults) to share with families this winter. If you would like to knit or crochet and donate items, please bring them to Cozy and fill out a tag with washing instructions, and we will pass them on to First Place.
In addition, we will also be making a 5-cent donation to First Place, each time you bring your own reuseable bag to Cozy in December. Use your bag and we'll give you a donation token in exchange--nickels add up!
Thank you for always being such caring knitters and crocheters, and always willing to help keep our community warm!
We can't beat the Symphony, so we're showing a sequel! Who can forget the holiday magic of the Yule Ball at Hogwarts?

If you'd like some extra dedicated knit- or crochet-time, or just the joy of watching a movie in a yarn shop, join us for our next Sit-and-Stitch Movie Night: Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, on Friday, December 13th, from 5:30-8:30 pm. We'll have cocoa, cookies, and other wizarding fare to accompany the film. Due to limited seating, pre-registration is required (and discounted if you bring a donation for the First Place Family Center!).
