We love catching up with our candidates, past and present, and it’s always great to hear how they are going and what they are up to. We recently heard from one of our candidates, Rebecca Milliner, who was promoted to the Events and Marketing Manager at the Cairns RSL. Having been with the organisation for less than a year, this is truly a testament to Rebecca’s excellent skills and hard work. Well done, Rebecca! As part of her new role, Rebecca is organising the ANZAC Day celebrations this year with events planned for 24th and 25th April. This year’s ANZAC Day celebrations will include a War Birds fly over, as well as the official opening of the Armoury Room in the Kokoda Hall Museum.
This past month, our new offices were featured on the Brookes Build Pty Ltd Facebook page. The finished product of all their hard work and craftsmanship is wonderful and we are very proud to be working in such a beautiful and functional office space.
Congratulations to the new committee members of the Cairns Chamber of Commerce, who were announced after their recent annual general meeting. More details of this, as well as other news stories in the region, are detailed in our What’s News section.
Thankfully, whilst Cairns and Townsville dodged the fury of Cyclone Debbie it, none the less, had a big impact on our regions. Townsville caught the northern edge of TC Debbie as it headed on its destructive path towards the coast experiencing strong winds and heavy rain. All of Townsville’s schools and many of its businesses were closed. The Bowen, Proserpine, Whitsundays and Mackay regions were hit hard and the system has continued to cause flooding down as far south as Northern NSW.
In Precruitment, our role was to prepare for teams of staff to be ready to be deployed for emergency situations for the State Government, Ergon and emergency community services organisations including the Red Cross. It is still early days as far as the clean-up goes, with water only just returning to some areas and power expected to be out in many places for some days to come. We are yet to see the results of the flooding.
Our hearts go out to all the communities affected by this powerful cyclone and we hope the tourists quickly return to the Whitsundays and that buildings, businesses and lives are soon restored to normal...
