RURAL TEACHING PRINCIPALS' GRANT FOR SEMINARS AND CONFERENCES
NZPF recognises how challenging it is for rural associations to offer relevant quality PLD programmes. The cost of travel and attracting high quality professional speakers creates financial burdens beyond the affordability of most associations. NZPF therefore created a special grant to support Rural Principals' Associations to hold seminars and conferences. Applications for these grants close on 1 November for seminars or conferences you intend to hold in 2017. For more information please click here.
NZPF LEGAL ADVICE AND SUPPORT SCHEME
The role of a principal is an unpredictable one. That's why NZPF strongly recommends principals sign up for the NZPF Legal Advice and Support Scheme. Over 1,000 principals around the country are subscribed to the scheme and this number continues to grow. You can read more about the scheme and how to subscribe in the latest issue of the New Zealand Principal magazine. (Navigate to Page 31 of the online document)

"WHAT KIDS WISH THEIR TEACHERS KNEW"
Teachers play such a crucial part in the raising of a child, so it's crucial for teachers to really understand their students and what makes them tick. Here's an article with a great idea for your teachers to try or adapt themselves.
BOOK LOOK
'Choice Words' by Peter H Johnston is a great read to share with your teachers. Peter was a New Zealand primary teacher who is now professor of education at the University of Albany in the US. This book will help you and your teachers create healthy learning communities. It's an easy and practical read which demonstrates how the things we say (and don't say) have surprising consequences for what children learn. Also recommended is the follow-on book 'Opening Minds'. Both books are practical and give real examples of what teachers can say to shape children's learning and support their intellectual, social and emotional development.
"WHAT DO TEACHERS MAKE?"
Do you know of anyone who has ever questioned the role or worth of a teacher? It might be worth showing them this great video from Taylor Mali.
