ACTION: Cancer Plan Minnesota 2025
The Minnesota Cancer Alliance launched Cancer Plan Minnesota 2025 on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at the McNamara Alumni Center at the University of Minnesota. This framework of 19 strategic objectives identifies targets for action to reduce the burden of cancer and promote health equity in Minnesota. Advocates including medical professionals, public health agencies, and non-profit organizations joined together to learn about the plan and network with other stakeholders to discuss cancer prevention, detection, treatment, survivorship and data trends.
PREVENTION: 2017 Minnesota Tobacco Control Conference
Despite substantial statewide progress, a significant number of Minnesotans continue to experience health concerns related to commercial tobacco use. We play an important role in creating a Minnesota where everyone is free from the harms of tobacco. On January 24-26, 2017, our team joined the Minnesota Tobacco Control Conference to disseminate information about cancer prevention and to learn more about current tobacco control and prevention issues. #InspiringBoldAction
EDUCATION: MPS STEM & Career Exploration Expo
On Thursday, February 2, 2017, the Masonic Cancer Center, University of Minnesota took part in the 6th Annual Minneapolis Public Schools STEM and Career Exploration Expo at the Minneapolis Convention Center. More than 2000 8th grade students took part in this opportunity to interact with over 70 community and industry partners in an effort to increase interest and understanding of STEM-related careers and and learning opportunities in Minnesota through hands-on, interactive exhibits. At the MCC booth, students were able to observe and compare healthy tissue samples to cancerous tissues, and learn about the exciting and diverse careers available in cancer research and care!
