2016 Catha's Seat Awards Recipients

I am delighted to announce the recipients of our first ever Catha's Seat Awards: Wye Scouts and Wheel Potential. These organisations are doing great work to promote safe and active cycling along Route 18 for all ages and abilities. We look forward to sharing their stories and what they have been up to with their award funds at the Catha's Seat Picnic next year on 29th April.
The Wye Scouts Group are planning to hold a treasure hunt on Route 18. They aim to have a fun and active event, encouraging the Scouts to get on their bikes in a safe, traffic free environment. This will take place on the 'off-road' section of Route 18 around Catha’s Seat near Chilham, introducing the Scouts and their families to this fantastic cycling facility. The Catha's Seat Award will support prizes and refreshments for the event as well as new set of hi-vis tabards for the Scouts.

Wheel Potential CIC provides cycle-hire to organisations, which support adults with learning difficulties or physical problems that prevent them from living independently. These people would be unsafe using a normal bicycle on a vehicular road so Route 18 provides the 'Traffic Free' whilst Wheel Potential provide a selection of three wheelers, wheelchair cycles and tandems. As well as offering therapeutic exercise and social interaction, for Parkinson's sufferers in particular there is evidence pedalling can 're-set' motor functions and reduce disability. The Catha's Seat Award is going towards vital safety, security and maintenance equipment. For more information on Wheel Potential contact Beatrice ( or Gill (

Thank you to everyone that submitted an application. We were thrilled to hear about some exciting projects and ideas and look forward to continuing the Awards scheme next year. Applications will be open from 1st May 2017 so spread the word. Tell anyone who may be interested to keep up to date with next year's awards by registering at the bottom of our awards webpage.

To keep the Catha's Seat Awards going we need to raise an annual fund of £1,000. If you would like to contribute to this and support our objectives to promote safe and healthy cycling on Route 18 for all, whilst also working towards a 100% traffic free Route 18 between Ashford and Canterbury, please donate here...
