Workshop on the Lao PDR Component of the GMS North-South Economic Corridor (NSEC-8)
This workshop was held via video conference on 23 March 2022.

GMS Senior Officials' Meeting
Ms. Sisomboun Ounavong, Director General, Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Planning and Investment of the Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) and Mr. Alfredo Perdiguero, Director, Regional Cooperation and Operations Coordination Division, Southeast Asia Department, ADB, co-chaired the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Senior Officials' Meeting via video conference on 10 March 2022. The meeting discussed ongoing and planned initiatives under the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Economic Cooperation Program Strategic Framework 2030 and GMS COVID-19 Response and Recovery Plan 2021–2023.

Consultation Meeting on the GMS Knowledge Network
This consultation meeting was held via video conference on 18 February 2022.

GMS Group Consultation Meeting on GMS Gender Strategy
The GMS Secretariat held a virtual consultation meeting with GMS countries’ gender focals on 26 January 2022 to present a revised GMS gender strategy. During the consultation, the GMS countries expressed their full support to this initiative and provided additional feedback for the finalization of the GMS gender strategy to be presented at the GMS Senior Officials’ Meeting in March 2022.

Agriculture
Demonstrations on Digital Agriculture in the GMS
The GMS Sustainable Agriculture Support Program is spearheading pilot demonstrations on digital agriculture on the (i) traceability of durian exports from Thailand to the People's Republic of China (PRC) and (ii) traceability of dragon fruit exports from Viet Nam to PRC. This virtual webinar held on 25 March 2022 provided a briefing on background, rationale, and key issues; decision-making process among governments and private sector stakeholders and partners; and pilot design and demonstration of digital technology platforms and solutions. 

Workshop: Climate-smart Agriculture in the Context of the Water-Food-Energy Nexus
The workshop “Climate-smart Agriculture in the context of the Water-Food-Energy Nexus” was held virtually on 24 March 2022. The interactive workshop introduced GMS stakeholders to the Nexus approach and engaged them in policy dialogue to jointly explore typical Nexus trade-offs.

COVID-19 Food Security Response and Recovery Actions in Cambodia
The workshop “COVID-19 Food Security Response and Recovery Actions in Cambodia” was held virtually on 3 March 2022. It was led by Cambodia’s national coordinator of the GMS Working Group on Agriculture (WGA), and attended by about 50 representatives from the government, development partners and the private sector. The workshop discussed priority actions for agriculture and food security in accelerating Cambodia’s response and recovery from COVID-19.

Consultation Meeting of the GMS WGA: TA 9916 Demonstrations
This consultation meeting of the GMS WGA on TA 9916, Greater Mekong Subregion Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security Program, was held via video conference on 19 January 2022.

The meeting was held via video conference on 23 February 2022. 
 
Trade and Investment The final consultation meeting was held via video conference on 21 January 2022.

Southeast Asia Sustainable Tourism Hub Launched at SEADS 2022

ADB launched the Southeast Asia Sustainable Tourism Hub on 17 March 2022 at the third Southeast Asia Development Symposium (SEADS). The online hub brings together diverse expertise from within and outside of ADB to help clients develop and finance innovative tourism projects, build destination management capacity, and provide knowledge solutions that align with ADB Strategy 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Offering regional perspective, strong country presence, and partnerships, the Southeast Asia Sustainable Tourism Hub promises to deliver quality development solutions for Southeast Asia’s tourism industry. Read more
 

ADB Approves Two Grants to Boost Tourism and Rice Production in Cambodia

ADB has approved two grants totaling $6.8 million to help revive tourism in Cambodia, boost the country’s rice quality and production, and repair the rice supply chain damaged by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. One grant, at $3.7 million, is expected to benefit 4,000 villagers through the Community-Based Tourism COVID-19 Recovery Project. The other grant, at $3.9 million, will benefit about 22,000 smallholder rice farmers by providing additional financing for the Climate Resilient Rice Commercialization Sector Development Program in the provinces of Battambang, Kampong Thom, and Prey VengRead more
