Message from the Chair of the Board
It was great to catch up with a big group of rural doctors at the Rural Doctors' Association of SA (RDASA) Masterclass earlier this month. Country SA PHN was a major sponsor of the event including sponsoring 4 GP Registrars to attend. All our Regional Strategies team attended the weekend which provided a great opportunity for them to meet more of the doctors in their patch. I welcome Dr Gerry Considine stepping into the RDASA President role and acknowledge Dr Peter Rischbieth for his service to the organisation as retiring president. Read more...

General Practice and Allied Health Needs Surveys
In May - June 2016 we conducted two surveys seeking feedback on General Practice and Allied Health Needs. The surveys closed in June with more than 200 responses. Thank you to all that participated. The feedback will be very useful in determining where service gaps exist and potential quality improvement in the integration and coordination of care between providers and the support CSAPHN provides.

We have recevied the parliminary survey results that included the "request for follow up" and our team will be in contact with you soon. We anticipate completing a summary of the results which will be available in the coming months.

All contributors went it to a draw to win 1 of 10 Fitbit Flex wireless activity and sleep tracking wristbands. The winners have been drawn and CSAPHN will be in contact soon with the winners to arrange delivery.
Cancer screening programs
Country SA PHN has funded Cancer Council SA to trial a new strategy aimed at increasing participation among South Australians aged 50 and over in cancer screening programs.  Practices agreeing to participate in the checklist trial have been selected from regions known to have low cancer screening rates including the Fleurieu, Barossa, Murray Mallee, Adelaide Hills, Yorke Peninsula and Eyre Peninsula.

  • Do you provide after hours on call to a Residential Aged Care Facility?
  • Would you like to be paid for providing a video consultation to a Residential Aged Care Facility resident after hours rather than providing ‘free’ telephone advice?
  • Would you like to become familiar with using SA Health compliant Cisco Jabber video consulting software?

5th Edition Standards for General Practices
The RACGP is currently developing the next edition of the RACGP Standards for general practices (the Standards). The 5th edition of the Standards builds on the 4th edition Standards and will be released in October 2017.

One of the largest changes between the 4th and 5th editions of the Standards is the move from process-focused to outcome-focused Indicators. Outcome-focused means that the Indicator focuses on the outcome or the intent rather than the process required to meet that intent. This approach gives practices greater scope to set up systems and processes that reflect the working arrangements in their practice and will be easier to maintain after their accreditation assessment.
