ASHBY: ALWAYS STRIVING TO EXCEL

SCHOOL NEWS & EVENTS MESSAGE

Good afternoon and welcome back to Term 4.  It is great to have students back on site and witness the positive vibes in and around the classrooms.
The staff enjoyed a well-deserved break over the holidays and are back refreshed, raring and ready to go this term.
I would like to welcome our new families to Ashby that have commenced this term Harry, Cooper, Maggie and Grace, and newly appointed staff member, Elly Gibbons who is working with the prep team.  Welcome to #TEAMASHBY.

It is important that we all continue to adhere to the guidelines relating to COVID-19 and the health and safety of all. Parents/carers need to continue to socially distance from each other in the afternoons when collecting students as you are unfortunately not able to congregate. Parents/carers are still unable to be onsite currently and are to drop students off and collect them from the gate. We will now unlock gates at 8:40am to allow students entry to the school grounds. Students are not to arrive at school prior to this time, the grounds will have staff supervision from 8:40am.
Parents/carers are to contact teaching staff by phone if wanting to discuss any concerns etc.

We were hoping to have a certain level of restriction lifted by the end of the year to allow us to hold a community afternoon/evening event whether it be Christmas carols or a mini concert etc.  I am saddened to say that this will unfortunately not be able to take place as restrictions are currently in place around numbers congregating, singing and dancing, and even if lifted in the later part of the term it will not give us time to prepare the students for any such event.
Our priority will be working very hard towards a special graduation for our Grade 6 students, to celebrate their amazing achievements over the years, thank them for their contribution to Ashby, and the amazing resilience that has been displayed throughout this really tough year, a challenge for anyone let alone someone in their final year of primary school.

As our swimming program was postponed this year, we have tentatively booked for 2021. This will look a little different though.  We are offering two opportunities for intensive swimming lessons. This will mean students will have 4 weeks of swimming lessons for Grades 1-6, as they missed out this year on lessons around this vital skill. New prep students (2021) will just have a two-week program in Term 4, 2021.
Swimming Term 1 2021: 15th – 26th February for Years 1-6.
Swimming Term 4 2021: 4th – 15th October for Years P-6.

Have a great week everyone.

The JSC would like to thank everyone that donated to the Footy Colours Day last term. We raised $284, that will go towards supporting kids undergoing cancer treatment to continue their education. 👏
SUNSMART SCHOOL
It is that time of year again that the UV rating is quite high, so please remember to bring your hats and apply sunscreen throughout the day.
CAMPS, SPORTS AND EXCURSION FUND
Applications for the CSEF has been opened again to allow families holding a valid means-tested concession card or temporary foster parents that has not already applied, to submit an application. It is only for 50% of the yearly amount ($62.50). You can email or contact the Administration office if you would like a form or I have attached a copy HERE.  Submission needs to be made by Friday 27 November.

The CSEF is an annual payment to the school to be used towards camps, sports and/or excursion expenses for the benefit of the eligible student. The CSEF is paid directly to your child’s school and will be allocated by the school towards camps, sports and/or excursion costs for your child.
OUTSIDE SCHOOL HOURS CARE
OSHC will be returning to normal for Term 4. If you signed up for permanent bookings at the beginning of the year, these we be reinstated for Term 4. Please contact the Administration Office if you need to cancel these, otherwise you will be charged for the bookings.

During Term 4 you will be able to continue using the Smart Central website to view and apply for bookings. The cancellation/booking time frame of 6pm for BSC and 2pm for ASC. Cancellations need to be sent to the Administration Office. Please make sure confirmation of bookings is received before attending.

To help streamline how we process our OSHC fees for Term 4 and beyond, we are switching to a Direct Debit model, which is the easiest and most efficient way to assist families in paying their OSHC fees. With Direct Debit, your OSHC fees are automatically deducted from your nominated bank account or credit / debit card when they are due.

Any questions please contact the Administration office.
