FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It has been great to see everyone enthusiastically returning after the summer break. It was very exciting to see our Preps commence day one with us today. Such enthusiasm and bright smiles on their faces. As I visited the classroom numerous times today, there was a lot of activity taking place. I am sure there will be some tired children at home this evening.
I would also like to welcome all new families and hope they have enjoyed their first few days as part of the Ashby community. I ask all existing families to please introduce yourselves and welcome our new members.
The summer break saw many parts of our country in devastating situations. During this despair and trauma, we have seen unbelievable efforts from firefighters, volunteers and individuals from around Australia and overseas support the firefighting efforts, communities and wildlife. In addition to this, we have seen an outpouring of generosity from the community, donating much needed items and funds to support the re-build and giving much needed medical attention to our national wildlife.
The resilience and strength of these individuals and the collective communities is to be applauded. It is a harsh wake up call to many of us that ‘sweat on the small stuff’, the little ‘negatives’ that weigh us down, and forget that another’s reality is so much worse than ours, and when going through the worst situation possible, they can display resilience, courage and empathy for others, with the optimism of better things to come.
Here at Ashby, we have much to celebrate and we look forward to a great year ahead as a wonderfully diverse and inclusive community. As role models to our students it is the above behaviours that I encourage parents/carers and friends to demonstrate, be positive about school and learning, building resilience, exhibiting that ‘I can’ attitude and at all times displaying our school TERRI values.
Mr Barclay and I enjoyed lunch together with the School Captains today. We are excited about their suggestions of ways in which they can lead at Ashby this year. We look forward to the students being active in this role and ask you to ‘watch this space’ for future updates.
I am so excited by the year ahead, and I am looking forward to watching our students thrive, the community events and learning opportunities that arise throughout 2020.
