We are concerned that social distancing measures are not being adhered to and cars not stopping at the pedestrian crossing throughout drop off and collection times by parents/carers on Waratah Street each day. It is important that everyone adheres to the Government and Department expectations relating to returning to school in order to maintain the health and safety of our students, staff and families.
In order to avoid staggered drop off times (which would be later than 8:50am) we ask that all families support us in the implementation of this.
Lawton Ave gate is unlocked daily and we ask that this entrance and exit is used where possible by students in 3 to 6 (and their siblings if younger).
We, as a staffing group will man the Waratah St crossing from 8:45am until 8:55am and 3:20pm until 3:25pm. Please ensure you are using the crossing and not walking over the road between cars.
Students are not to arrive prior to 8:45am unless booked in to Before School Care.
Please talk to your children at home regarding the importance of adhering to these expectations.

It has been great to have the 3-6 students back onsite this week. There has been an enthusiastic vibe around Ashby and we are very excited to have the team back together and returning to normality.
It was fantastic to see 4/5 Mair in the paper last Wednesday celebrating this also.
Students have been unpacking the newly developed ‘School Wide Positive Behaviour Matrix’ that staff and students developed in Term 1. This will underpin all expected behaviours and what it looks like to be a member of the Ashby community.  This includes four specific areas that are related back to TERRI.
  1. In learning spaces
  2. In outdoor spaces
  3. In the digital world
  4. In the community
We will be sending a copy of this home for all families to unpack together and where possible display on the fridge or somewhere prominent at home for all to see.
Students have been sanitising and following strict hygiene processes and we thank them for their diligence with this. We do have some students still not bringing a drink bottle.
Please ensure these are packed for this week as it is imperative they are drinking water throughout the day and we are not wanting to access the drinking taps where possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Friends of Ashby group for providing an amazing luncheon on Friday. We appreciate your kinds thoughts in regards to staff efforts throughout the remote learning experience.
This was a lovely treat and well received by all. Yum Yum Yum!

Again, we would like to thank all families for their efforts throughout remote learning also.
Please take 5 minutes to complete the survey LINKED, as we appreciate your feedback and reflection on this time at home.

Modified reports will go home next Wednesday June 24th for Semester one.  A letter outlining the information offered in these reports will go out on COMPASS this week.
Amy and I finalised prep placements for 2021 today. This year is certainly going quickly, and we are excited to be sending out letters welcoming students to Ashby for 2021.
Enjoy your week everyone,

Dear Parents/Caregivers,
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for helping and supporting all of the students at Ashby during remote learning. Remote learning for us all was definitely a challenge however we got through it successfully, because of the amazing support, effort and encouragement you displayed to help your child/children.
As school captains, we were very proud to see how many students were able to engage in remote learning and it was also terrific to see everyone share their work online. With remote learning now over, we hope you all have the chance to have a break and have an opportunity to get your own work done! 😃
Kind Regards,
Ed and Lyla

Hi everyone.
Just a little note of reflection from myself on behalf of our family.
As I reflect on the last few months, I, like so many others have really thought about what is important and the impact that covid-19 has had on us as a family and individually.
We need far less than we think we do to be happy. We don’t need to visit the shops just for that chocolate bar we are simply craving or have that extra take away coffee this week.
Geez, it’s even amazing how far that last roll of toilet paper will stretch!!
The slowed pace of life, whilst it has been a challenge, has given us all a chance to simply catch our breath. It has given us time to pay closer attention to what our kids are saying.
Something as simple, and previously unappreciated, as an evening walk with the family and the new dog can be the highlight of one's day.
We are incredibly lucky to have a health care system that is ready and willing to fight this battle. There was a time early on in which I was completely terrified at the prospect of being a nurse throughout this pandemic. The numbers weren’t great, and the prediction was dire. But we, as a hospital and as a country were ready.
We undoubtedly live in the “Lucky Country” and I feel blessed to be a part of an amazing team in Geelong.
Did I hate the fact that we missed celebrating Matildas 6th Birthday with her first little group of prep friends, absolutely.
Did it sadden me when all my kids wanted to do was see their cousins, grandparents, friends, and I had to continue to say no. No doubt.
Did I feel guilt over the fact that I could go to work and interact with my peers whilst my kids could not interact with theirs? Of course.
Did I cry? Yes. Did I laugh? Many times. Did I parent well all the time? Not even close. But am I proud of how we coped and continue to cope as a family, as a community, as a country? Absolutely.
My kids drive have driven me absolutely crazy, but I’ve loved (almost) every single minute. Watching a little preppie grow and develop right in front of your eyes was amazing and something I won’t soon forget.
In saying that, I’m so happy to hand her back over to the most incredible team at Ashby. You have adapted and prospered (at least on the outside looking in) and we could not be prouder or happier to be part of the Ashby community. You did an incredible job making a challenging situation as seamless as possible. For that you should be congratulated.
Regards, Bec Hook
