Thursday night learning at Mercaz this week! 9:00-10:30.
Meet the Mercaz Members: Liz Roth and Andre Jacobowitz and Noam and Oren
Where are they from:Liz grew up in Pittsburgh, PA; still a Pittsburgher at heart. Andre is from Recife, Brazil, and came to the States for high school, where he boarded with a family in Florida.
A good travel memory: They went to Vancouver over winter break and loved the Suspension Bridge Park where they have a "treetop hike." They climbed through tall tress via a bunch of small bridges connecting them. "The air was so fresh and the colors were so green, it was beautiful!"
What hobbies they're enjoying these days:Andre is a committed biker. You can find him on the Burke Gilman every day! Liz is really into taking the boys to Storybook Theater and Seattle Children's theater productions. "Storybook theater has amazing songs and stories and they perform all over the city. We've also been taking ski lessons!"
What's on their 2020 bucket list:1) Skagit Valley Tulip Festival 2) Paradise at Mt Rainier 3) Visit Andre's family in Brazil 4) Open to suggestions!
What appeals to them about Mercaz: They think the North End has it all. They love the neighborhood parks, close proximity to work and schools, diverse Jewish community and of course U Village! They are so happy to be a part of Mercaz and a growing Modern Orthodox community in this area. "Mercaz has wonderful and warm people, an open and inclusive environment, and is a place we feel at home."
With Purim just around the corner, Mercaz will be starting a Mishloach Manot program that allows people to give to others in the community and help raise funds for the shul.
Each individual or family who signs up will contribute to sending to all other participants and get one in return for a cost of $36. The deadline to register and participate is Thursday February 20th. Baskets can be picked up at Mercaz on March 9th after megillah reading.
Tuesday, March 10th TBA - Morning community reading
Tuesday, March 10th at 4 pm - Women's reading (see below)
2020 Women*'s Megillat Esther reading!
Tuesday, March 10th, 2020 at 4pm. More info at http://bit.ly/mercaz-women-purim-2020. To read, please sign up at that document directly, or let us know if you have any questions. Thanks!
* What do we mean by "Women's"? This reading is by and for women. This event is meant to encourage female representation in the traditional Orthodox space. In order to encourage women to participate, as of 2019, this will be a women-only space. If all the individuals reading at the Women's reading share that they are comfortable with the presence of men during the reading, this can be revisited in the future. If some or all of the readers wish to organize another mixed reading at another time during the holiday, we also welcome that. Note that for reading of other megillot, such as Megillat Ruth, we have an all-gender welcome to read/listen model.
Welcome to the 80's (The 5780's) Rabbi Avi and Rachel invite the community to join them for a Purim Seudah at their home (80's costumes or not)!
Tuesday, March 10th - 3 pm - 10 pm
Feel free to stay for the entire time or just stop by.
If you would like to contribute dairy or parve food to the party you can sign up below. Packaged food items and drinks welcome as well. It does not need to be 80's themed but theme away if you like! Direct rsvp and questions to firstname.lastname@example.org
