Meet the Members: Liz Katcoff, Ari Gleicher, Charlotte and Jonah
Where are you from?
Ari is from Chicago and Liz is from Northern New Jersey.
What brought you to Seattle?
Liz got a job at Amazon and Ari had a mobile teaching job. We moved to Seattle in 2012 right after getting married. We lived in Capitol Hill for a couple of years before moving to the North End.
Can you share a good travel memory?
Our favorite trip was our vacation to Iceland, about a year before having kids. We did a ton of hiking, hot tubs, and snowmobiled on a huge glacier. We also hit a rock on the way to a hot tub overlooking the arctic in a remote area of the Westfjords (town population of 12). We ended up stuck overnight with a hospitable host and got a ride back to where we were staying with a tow truck (only one of us could go in the truck) and with a garbage truck doing its rounds.
What's your favorite current boardgame or hobby?
We’ve gotten into making craft cocktails lately. And with the kids being around 24/7 due to COVID, we certainly need it!
Any special way that you are coping with the current pandemic?
See cocktails above!
What appeals to you about Mercaz and the Northend community?
We love the inclusiveness of the Mercaz/North End community and all the friends we’ve made while living here. We love that while there are so many shuls of various denominations in the North End, it feels like one larger diverse community. In a city with a relatively small affiliated Jewish population like Seattle, we believe in the importance of being part of the Jewish community at large and in the North End, it is easy to do so.
Wednesday night learning (moved from Thursday night)
While we can't physically gather for cheesecake, we can still share a visual taste of our desserts. Anytime next Thursday, upload a picture of your cheesecake or other desserts onto the Mercaz Facebook Group. We can comment and share. Also, join our Shavuot/Shabbat zoom at 6:30 pm next Thursday.
Quarantine Support - If you need support (something picked up at a store, dropped off to you, picked up from you, a meal) or would like to join this team to provide support, reach out to Racheli Moskowitz at 516-305-2241 or email@example.com
Thursday evening is Rabbi Rothstein's class on the weekly Torah Portion for our entire community. See you there! Click here (Password: 6RHmk9) to join the class.
