WHAT IS THE SBN MISSION IN MOZAMBIQUE?

The SUN Business Network (SBN) aims to support Mozambique to engage with business within a multi-stakeholder, country-owned, approach to scaling up nutrition. GAIN and WFP co-chair the SBN at the global level and GAIN is the local implementer with WFP as a strategic partner. Whilst SBN Mozambique was established in 2014, it is just now with a commitment from DFID Mozambique that it’s full programme will be running in full operational speed.

The SBN Mozambique mission is to improve and strengthen the private sector’s contribution towards improving nutrition in Mozambique, through the creation of an enabling environment to commit and align behind national strategies on nutrition and to advocate for private sector investment in nutrition.

2015 GLOBAL NUTRITION REPORT

This report was produced by an Independent Expert Group (IEG) empowered by the Global Nutrition Report Stakeholder Group.). According with this report, the world faces many seemingly intractable problems, and malnutrition should not be one of them. Countries that are determined to make rapid advances in malnutrition reduction can do so. If governments want to achieve the SDG target of ending all forms of malnutrition by 2030, they have clear pathways to follow. There are many levers to pull, and this report provides abundant examples of countries that have done so. Read more here

CERVEJAS DE MOÇAMBIQUE (CDM) LAUNCHED A NUTRITIOUS FORTIFIED DRINK IN MOZAMBIQUE

Super Maheu is a nutritious fortified maize drink that was launched by CDM in Mozambique.
SBN has been working with CDM to support the fortification of the Super Maheu now produced and commercialized in Mozambique.  They have added a vitamin B Complex to fortify their existing recipe.

Please see below the testimonial:

“CDM believes scaling up nutrition is essential to improve the livelihoods of people of Mozambique.  Through its partnership with its catering company CDM ensures a nutritional meal is provided to its employees daily in the canteen.  CDM is introducing a fortified nutritional nonalcoholic drink called Super Maheu in two flavours, strawberry and banana.  This product is now available in the trade in a 300ml PET bottle.  It can be stored at room temperature or be refrigerated.” (Justin Geyve - Director Business Development)
The SUN Business Network is one of the four global networks that support SUN countries (along with UN, Civil Society and Donor Networks). The SBN was established to mobilize and intensify business efforts in support of scaling up nutrition.
In Mozambique, the SBN will be a multi-stakeholder platform acting as a focal point for private sector engagement on nutrition in Mozambique and to demonstrate the impact that business can have on improving nutrition in the country.
