Advances in Intra-Operative Radiotherapy (IORT) treatments, IOERT and low KV treatment systems
Intraoperative radiotherapy (IORT) for pancreatic cancer

Despite the important improvements made in the fields of surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, pancreatic cancer remains one of the most lethal malignancies. Improved outcomes with novel chemotherapy regimens have lead to increased attention on the possible role of localised radiotherapy since local tumour progression leads to significant morbidity and mortality. Even after resection local failure rates can be up to 80%. IORT appears to be an ideal treatment strategy, enabling high doses to be given to areas at risk from microscopic disease.

The following paper from Krempien and Roeder in Germany provides a recent synopsis of the published literature and techniques. Click here to view the paper:

RadPro now has a preview of 5 published papers on the current treatment of pancreatic cancer with IORT showcased in the RadPro 365 Live poster and paper zone, in our virtual radiotherapy conference and exhibition from leading international centres including the Mayo Clinic, Massachusetts General and the University of Heidelberg

WOmed’s T-200 Therapy X-Ray Unit available from IEL

The powerful T-200 unit covers the complete range of conventional x-ray therapy, and can be used for semi-deep and orthovoltage-deep radiation therapy. The 200kV unit provides high dose rates for both the orthovoltage-deep and semi-deep therapy. An integral part of the system is a powerful networkable record & verify (R & V) system for treatment planning and documentation (completely paperless). This patient verification system is included as part of the system, allowing quick and easy access to all patient treatment and history data.

A record of each treatment is stored under the patient’s unique identification allowing the operator to easily review a patient’s entire course of treatment on the screen. All patient data is stored in a pre-determined central location which can be archived and/or exported for analysis.

Installation is possible in a variety of settings with the 3D ceiling mount for large treatment rooms, or a ground-based column stand for smaller treatment areas. Several options are available to complete the system into an effective therapy unit:
