REMINDER

TOMORROW, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, IS VETERANS DAY.
SCHOOL WILL BE CLOSED.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND!
Dear Families,

Today we hosted almost one hundred of our local veterans for breakfast and a school wide assembly. Every branch of our military was represented.  Every student made one or more contributions in song, poetry, serving breakfast, greeting, playing an instrument, making placemats and leading The Pledge of Allegiance or Star Spangled Banner. Students showed great respect for our veterans and their service and sacrifice in support of our democracy. Thank you for talking with your children about  how respecting and caring for our veterans is one of the ways we can show our gratitude for their commitment to all of us.

On Saturday, February 11th,  we will host a Family Day with the Norman Rockwell Museum at the museum in Stockbridge. This will follow a third grade field trip in early January and a visit to Muddy Brook by author Jerry Pinkney on January 19.  This family event will include hiking or snowshoeing on the grounds at the museum, seeing the collection, listening to Muddy Brook musicians and seeing art and writing from our third graders. This event will be free and open to all Muddy Brook families. Please mark your calendars.

Best Regards,

Mary Berle, Principal

Chess Club News

Announcing the Seventh Annual Muddy Brook Chess Tournament

This year the Muddy Brook Chess Tournament will start on Monday, March 13. Once again it will be open to all Muddy Brook students who play chess and whose parents or guardians turn in a parental permission slip to the school secretary or Dr. Kalish before February 1st. Games will be played on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:00 in the school library.

If a student is more than 10 minutes late for a game without an adequate excuse, he/she will automatically forfeit that game. The tournament will be a double elimination so that no student will eliminated from the tournament until he/she has lost two games.

If any match ends in a stalemate (tie game) that game will be replayed. If participants have two tie matches in a row, Dr.Kalish will devise a chess problem for those participants to solve to determine who will be the winner of their match.

The winner of the entire tournament will have his/her names inscribed on the Muddy Brook Chess Tournament Trophy which is placed in the front office of the Muddy Brook School. Below is a copy of the parental permission slip which must be completed and turned in to Dr. Kalish or the school secretary before February 1st in order for that student to be in this year's Chess Tournament.
