Dear Families,
It’s been a joy to see you in school this week for parent conferences. Thank you for partnering with us to best support your child(ren)!
Next week, Unicycle Team begins officially every Friday from 8:00 to 8:35. Many thanks to  PTA members Heather Boyko, Tiffany and Carter Wilding-White, Reed Anderson and Cory Ziobro for volunteering to support the unicycle team!
The fourth grade Mexican Fiesta takes place from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m this Wednesday, October 26. This is an annual culminating event for fourth grade families hosted by the fourth grade teachers and students as part of their study of Mexico. We’re looking forward to seeing fourth grade families!
Thanks to all who volunteered at the Book Fair and/or selected books to read at home. The proceeds from the fair will go to expanding our library collection.
This week in third grade students continued their study of multiplication and began conversations about square numbers. Mrs. Guerrero’s class built a pyramid of square numbers  (1, 4, 9, 16…), noticed a pattern about the relationship between square numbers, and developed a theory to predict accurately the next number in the string. We’re excited to see Muddy Brook students developing the thinking skills to solve increasingly complex problems!
Cheers to all,
Mary A. Berle, Principal

Chess Club News
"The Queen of Katwe,"  a disney movie about a young girl from a slum in Uganda who becomes an international CHESS MASTER, is now showing at our own Triplex Cinema in Great Barrington.   It will be there from this Friday until the following Wednesday.   Go and see it.   The Chess club she trains with in Africa reminds me very much of our own Muddy Brook chess club.
Also please note that on Tuesday, February 1st at 5:30 p.m. will be the opening of "The Berkshire Hills Chess Club."   This chess club will be associated with the national chess association and is intended for older (middle school and up) more experienced players.   If you think you might  be interested in learning more about "The Berkshire Hills Chess Club", give Gene Kalish a call or send him an e-mail and he will tell you more about it; or simply show up at the Muddy Brook community room on February 1st.   If you know how to play chess and are looking for a good game, you are more than welcome to attend as well.
Gene Kalish, Chess Coach
