GTE 50th Anniversary

Amongst other Reliants, my father (who worked at Reliant in the 1960s - 1970s) used to have a 3-litre Scimitar GTE when we were younger and it was a car that we all loved and indeed a car that my father was really sad to sell when the time came.  When I think about it, it doesn't seem that long ago and so it is most surprising to note that it was 50 Years ago that Reliant announced the first Gran Tourer with estate car spaciousness to go into production anywhere in the world.  The Scimitar GTE was exhibited at Earls Court in London in October 1968 where is was admired by many and more than fulfilled Reliant's expectations causing them to increase production to meet demand. Capable of 120mph, the Scimitar GTE was unlike anything else on the road and proved to be a huge success for Reliant. We will be covering the 50th anniversary of the Scimitar in our December 2018 edition of the Reliant Motor Club Review magazine (No 5)..

On the theme of the 50th anniversary, we are delighted to announce that Elvis' new book on the Reliant Scimitar is now available (see below).  The book is actually a result of Scimitar GTE designer Tom Karen who asked Elvis if he would be writing a book for the 50th anniversary.  Elvis had looked into a book on the Scimitar previously although it did not go ahead, however, now spurred on by Tom's offer of his assistance in providing as much information for the book as he could, Elvis approached the publishers once more and the book was approved..

Best Wishes

Reliant Beer!
Whilst at the RMC we do not condone drink driving in any form, when not in the car we all enjoy the occasional drink to unwind with. The RMC has teamed in with a new micro brewery in Tamworth to produce a celebratory beer to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Scimitar GTE.  The brewery was founded by George Greenaway in 2017 and has already produced a number of CAMRA award winning beers, many of which have a Tamworth themed name.

The new beer is due to be launched in Tamworth in conjunction with Elvis' new Reliant Scimitar book.  Watch the RMC web site for further news.
