Indiana is Reopening!
It's been a long couple of months, but the state of Indiana is starting to reopen! It's very exciting to return to things like work or our favorite restaurants, but some of these activities are going to look a little different. For tips and tricks to navigate this reopening process, SAI has created a few training videos covering things like Health/Safety, Mask Usage, and Returning to Community Services.
SAI Secretary, Megan Burger, on health and safety tips during reopening.
SAI Board Member, Erin McGuire, on wearing a mask and frequently asked mask questions.
SAI Vice-President, Courtney Clark, on returning to community services
All of these videos can be found on the Self Advocates of Indiana Youtube page:

BIG, big "Thank You" to Megan, Erin, and Courtney for your amazing work in putting these videos together!!

Please understand that we have your best interests at heart and  that  the health and well- being of our Self Advocates is very  important to us and we want you all to remain happy , healthy and safe

"What's the Census Like?" with Danie'l Mize
by Danie'l Mize:

My name is Danie’l Mize and I would like to tell you about what it was like to do the online 2020 Census. All I had to do was enter the code that was mailed to me. So, I entered the website that came with the code, then I enter the code, when promoted, and answered about 4 questions. The entire process took about 10-15 minutes and was so much easier than the paper form.
Legislative Alert!
We need your help making Self-Advocates' voices heard as the US Senate develops a fourth Coronavirus package. Please see the following message from The Arc of Indiana Government Affairs Team:

The Senate must act to pass legislation that includes the critical needs of people with disabilities, their families, and the direct support professional workforce in a new Coronavirus package. In May, the House passed its fourth Coronavirus package, the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions (HEROES) Act (H.R.6800) with a vote of 208-199.

This package includes:

  • Increased federal funding for home and community based services (HCBS) under Medicaid
  • Expanded eligibility for economic impact payments to adult dependents and another round of payments
  • Paid leave eligibility for family caregivers of adults with disabilities, including siblings and grandparents
See The Arc's statement. We urge you to contact your Senators now!

It is going to be very important to share your own story about why the services you receive through the Medicaid Waiver are important to you and how much you enjoy living in the community.

You can also tell stories of why your DSPs are essential and what your DSP does for you, or why paid leave is important if you have a family member that is caring for you.

Special Olympics Update
by Danie'l Mize:

My name is Danie’l Mize. I would like to talk about Special Olympics Indiana. Sorry to let you know this news, but we can not restart any sports competition, practices, or face to face social events, until July. We know that it is hard to wait, but we no think about our health and safety.
If you miss your friends, you can call or Facebook them. After July, we can restart again, and will all be happy and know I will be there.
