CLIMATE CHANGE:OUR LAST CHANCE?

A talk by: GONZALO ALVAREZ

Where are we now? What progress was made in reversing
climate change at COP26 in Glasgow last year? What were the main findings of scientific experts in the IPCC report finalized in February this year? What happened just recently at this month’s UN Climate Conference in Bonn? How bad is the situation now and what are or will be the consequences if we don’t act fast enough? What solutions have been agreed to reduce greenhouse gases and slow global warming? Gonzalo Alvarez is Chair of the United Nations Association Climate and Oceans division and will take us through what has happened over the past year and is happening now including what impact the war in Ukraine is having on the climate change agenda. He will be glad to answer all your questions.

ENTRY IS FREE TO BEG MEMBERS,STUDENTS AND THOSE ON BENEFITS OTHERS ARE REQUESTED TO DONATE £2.00 OR JOIN BEG AT A SUBSCRIPTION OF £5.00 PER ANNUM.

Bexhill Friends of the Down June 2022
We are keeping up a programme of strimming, weeding and mulching of the new trees on Bexhill Down twice a month, especially now that the grass in the lower and newer part of King Offa Wood is growing so high. We have also replaced broken canes and spirals, and put in a dozen more substantial stakes and sleeve guards to try and prevent the breakages. There is plenty of new green growth on the trees and a lot of oxeye daisies, buttercups and attractive grasses to be seen. Volunteers have reported seeing several species of butterfly, including small blue butterflies, and on hot days there is a constant hum of insect activity.
LITTER PICK:      Wed 22nd June 2022 (next date 13th July 2022) meet at 9:30am opposite the Athletic Club. I will bring the wheelbarrow with litter grabbers, rings and bags - please bring your own gloves. We usually stay out for about one to one and a half hours.
TREE CARE:      Sat 25th June 2022 (next date 16th July 2022) meet at 9:30am by the bench below King Offa Wood (near King Offa Nursery Please wear gardening gloves, protective footwear. Please bring any of the following: spade, trowel, shears or a battery strimmer if you have one. We usually stay out for about one to one and a half hours.
As usual, our regular activities on Bexhill Down are on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month (Litter pick) and the Saturdays following these Wednesdays (Tree care).
I will email to cancel on each day around 9am if the weather is very bad.
