Conference Wrap Up

Thank you to Galveston County, Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston, and the many sponsors and attendees who helped make our annual conference in Galveston, TX a tremendous success. ServTracker User Workshop

We hope you can join us at Interfaith Ministries for Greater Houston for a two-day ServTracker® training event on June 14 and 15, 2018. Greg & Sarah Prosser from Accessible Solutions, Inc. will host workshop training sessions that are designed for both new and experienced users.

This workshop will give your users and staff an ability to engage and build their knowledge and proficiency using the ServTracker® platform and learn about new features that can help your operation become more efficient.

Registration is open until 11:55 p.m. on June 6 and is limited to a maximum of four individuals per organization. Members can enjoy a special rate of $200 per attendee while nonmembers will be charged the full rate of $240 per attendee.

Save the Date: State Association Meeting at the Meals on Wheels America Conference

Planning has begun for the 2018 Meals on Wheels Annual Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina, scheduled for Tuesday, August 28 – Thursday, August 30, with the pre-conference workshop and other activities scheduled for Monday, August 27.

Our State Association meeting has been scheduled from 5:45 – 6:45 p.m. on Monday, August 27. Please save the date! We will provide additional information as the date gets closer.

ICYMI: Texas Health & Human Services Executive Commissioner Charles Smith Announces Retirement

Executive Commissioner Charles Smith announced his retirement from state service effective May 31.

"After nearly 30 years of service, it has been truly an honor. There is no higher calling than helping people in need," Smith said. "This is a job I have loved, and I know together we have made a difference for Texans."

Smith was appointed executive commissioner by Governor Greg Abbott effective June 1, 2016.

2018 Meals on Wheels Loves Pets Grants: Grant Cycle Opening
Meals on Wheels Loves Petsgrants are designed to support Members with their existing pet programs or help them start new ones. For the 11th year, MOWA will be providing needs-based awards of up to $2,500 to eligible Member programs, thanks to funding from Banfield Charitable Trust.

The 2018 application cycle for the Meals on Wheels needs-based pet assistance grant program is open as of Friday, May 4 and applications are due by 5 p.m. ET on Friday, June 1.

Impact of Home Delivered Meals on Healthcare Costs

A recently published study in Health Affairs details the difference that home-delivered meals can make in improving health outcomes while reducing escalating healthcare expenditures among vulnerable individuals like the seniors you serve.

Findings from Meals on Wheels America’s More Than a Meal Randomized Control Pilot Study provide more insights on how and why home-delivered meals can help keep seniors in their homes and out of far more expensive healthcare settings like nursing homes and emergency rooms, mirroring the evidence shown by the Health Affairs study.
