Yep, I Tried This at Home - Hibiscus Paloma
Seriously, drink this - you will love it.
I am no Mix Master, I generally like my liquor straight. So when I decide I'm going to make a cocktail, it'd better be good and it'd better be easy!
We live in Alaska and sometimes it's not the easiest to find all the ingredient a recipe calls for. So I modified a bit. Have you ever tried to find grapefruit juice that wasn't "Ruby Red" - not so easy. And I'm not driving all over town looking - if you do, more power to you. I think the only difference is that it'd be a bit prettier with the regular stuff.
So here it is, with my modifications. Gotta love a cocktail that you can modify all day long and it'll still tastes great.
What you need:
2 cups Tequila - Silver - make it a good one, or you'll notice.
2 cups Grapefruit Juice - if you can't find the regular stuff Ruby Red works JUST FINE
1/4 cups Hibiscus Syrup. We carry the flowers in syrup, they are delicious (you can eat the flower and the syrup is a fantastic sweetener) They can be used in LOTS of cocktails, some easier than this one!
2 tablespoons Honey or Agave Nectar - I used Agave - because it's a tequila drink
Club Soda - Just a splash
I was heading to a friends party so I made a pitcher of this stuff, no cocktails for one here. So you are getting the full sized recipe adjust if you only want enough for you.
I was going to follow this recipe exactly... but when you are out on the deck and the day is hot and beautiful you are there to drink and socialize, not be in the kitchen mixing.
Notice equal parts tequila and juice. - modify everything from there and mix to personal taste.
Stir your juice, hibiscus syrup, and honey or agave together
top with a splash of club soda
add a hibiscus flower to each glass.
I put my big 'ol pitcher of drink on the table with a couple cans of club soda and the jar of flowers next to it with directions: Pour into glass, add a splash of club soda and a flower.
If you like things a bit sweeter adjust your sweet additions. I like the bitterness of grapefruit so I reduced the sweeteners.
What I love about this recipe is it is easy, quick and can be modified and it still tastes great! Seriously, you gotta try this stuff. Summer is fading, enjoy it while you can!
