The Danube Water Program supports policy dialogue and capacity development to achieve Smart Policies, Strong Utilities, Sustainable Services in the water supply and wastewater sector in the Danube Region. The program is jointly run by the World Bank and IAWD, with funding from the Government of Austria.

Danube Water Program will enter a third phase

The Danube Water Program will enter a third phase beginning January 1, 2019 with 3.5 million Euro additional financing from the Austrian Ministry of Finance. The extended funding will allow program activities such as the Danube Water Conference, Danubis.org, Benchmarking and the Danube Learning Partnership to continue for another three years. The World Bank to continue to undertake analytical work in support of good policies and governance in the region and will expand its scope of activities to include a program on Water Security (focusing on the interaction between water uses and issues such as climate change).

2019 Danube Water Conference - Save the Date

The Danube Water Conference is the Danube Water Program’s flagship event, taking place in Vienna every May since 2013. Over the years, the conference has evolved into a must-attend event for key water and sanitation sector and municipal government representatives from the Danube region, to discuss challenges and opportunities in the sector and ways to jointly achieve smart policies, strong utilities, and sustainable water services.
The 2019 Danube Water Conference will take place on 20-22 May 2019 in Vienna, Austria.
 

Apply now to join the Danube Hub 2nd cycle

After very successful 1st Danube Hub utility benchmarking cycle that took place in 2017-2018, we are glad to launch the 2nd Danube Hub utility benchmarking cycle.
The process of recruitment of utilities for participation in the Danube Hub is continuously open. To join the Danube Hub, you need to fill in and submit the Application Form, which also contains the conditions of participation. Based on the date of your application the Hub coordinator will consult with you about the best possible model and timing for your inclusion in the work of the Danube Hub. 

Update on Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Program 

On 29 November 2018, Aquasan Network in BiH delivered the final workshop for 15 representatives from 7 water utilities, thus completing the second training cycle under the D-LeaP NRW Program. As such, in two training cycles that have been carried out in 2017 and 2018, a total number of 38 employees and managers from 18 participating Water Utilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina have enhanced their competences to address high NRW levels. Further progress on other D-LeaP Programs 

In the frame of the Belgrade Water Expo UTVSI launched the Water Safety Planning (WSP) program to 6 utilities from Serbia and BiH. The workshop was an introduction to the program with the expectation that further activities will take place in the coming year.
The Energy Efficiency program was delivered in BiH by Aquasan and a further Training of Trainers took place on 12-15 December in Albania where the program will be launched in the upcoming year.
 

Focus note on wastewater management in the Danube region

The World Bank focus note "Is the UWWTD implementation delivering results for the people, the economy and the environment of the Danube region? An assessment based on the World Bank’s engagement in support of wastewater management in the Danube region" reviews the World Bank experience with wastewater (WW) management under the European Union (EU) water policies in the Danube River Basin (DRB) since the early 1990s, considering environmental, economic, sustainability and affordability results of Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) implementation in Danube region.

IAWD Roundtable and D-LeaP Committee Council Meeting convened in Vienna

The meeting of the IAWD Roundtable of Danube region water utility associations and the D-LeaP Committee Council has been organized on 17-18 December in Vienna, Austria.
The partners of the Danube Learning Partnership – the national water utility associations as well as IAWD – convened to work further on the implementation and delivery of D-LeaP programs. More information

IAWD attending the IWA Worldwater Congress in Tokyo, Japan

IWA’s Worldwater Congress is the biennial get together of the water sector and was also attended by two representatives of IAWD. IAWD President Walter Kling as well as Katerina Schilling were both invited to facilitate and moderate a session in the Basin Connected Cities Forum and sharing the experience from the Danube region. Furthermore, the Danube Learning Partnership (D-LeaP) as an example of a regional capacity building initiative was presented in the a workshop on “People Management”.

49th Regional conference on waste water, municipal solid waste and hazardeous waste

The Association for Water Technology and Sanitary Engineering together with Waterworks and Sewerage Association of Serbia, and Institute of Chemistry, Technology and Metallurgy, and in cooperation with Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, City of Kragujevac and PUC Waterworks and Sewerage Kragujevac, will organise the 49th regional conference on waste water, municipal solid waste and hazardeous waste in the hotel “Sumarice”, Kragujevac, Serbia on 2- 4 April 2019. 4th Regional Conference “Efficient and Sustainable Water Services in B&H”

By organising the 4th Regional Conference “Efficient and Sustainable Water Services in B&H” on 9-11 April 2019 Aquasan Network in B&H continues to contribute to the improvement of sustainable water services provision and better organisation and development of individual, organisational and institutional capacities in the sector.

18th International conference on water supply and wastewater systems

The Association for Water Technology and Sanitary Engineering together with the Association of Republika Srpska Waterworks, Water Supply and Sewerage Association of Serbia, and City of East Sarajevo will organise the 19th International conference on water supply and wastewater systems  in Jahorina, Pale, Bosnia &Herzegovina on 29-31 May 2019. The international trade fair and conference for renewable energy, energy efficiency, water and waste management will be held on 24-25 April 2019 in Belgrade, Serbia. More information

Intermittent Water Supply Conference IWS 2019

This conference will be organised on 7-9 April 2019 and aims to advance the knowledge and share experiences on Intermittent Water Supply (IWS) and to frame the problem of IWS within its technical, institutional, financial and social contexts. It will provide an opportunity for water researchers, engineers and experts from academia, industry, governments and water utilities to exchange experiences, and knowhow on how to improve conditions under IWS and on how to develop methodologies to improve and transition to continuous water supply. Water Loss 2019

The Southeast Europe Regional Conference Water Loss  2019 will be organised on 22-24 September 2019 in Bucharest, Romania and is intended to present and discuss the latest developments, strategies, techniques and applications of international best practices in Non-Revenue Water Management.
