Instructor of the Month

Detective Medrano

Prior to working in law enforcement, Detective Medrano started his career in 2002 as a language arts teacher while completing his master's degree in education at Monmouth University. He then went to work for D.C.P.P. (formerly known as D.Y.F.S.) until he was sworn into the Roselle Park Police Department (R.P.P.D.) in June of 2005.

One of Det. Medrano’s highest honors thus far is receiving the New Jersey Policemen's Benevolent Association (NJPBA) Life Saving Award in 2008. Starting in 20011, Det. Medrano received numerous Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) awards for aggressive enforcement of DWI violations as a patrolman and he continues his efforts as a drug recognition expert (D.R.E.).

In 2013 Det. Medrano was assigned to the Community Oriented Policing Unit (C.O.P.). While working in this unit, Det. Medrano helped develop the following C.O.P. initiatives that continue to enhance the quality of life for all the students throughout the borough of Roselle Park:

  • Instructor - L.E.A.D. Program
  • Annual Charity Basketball Game
  • Police And Teens Together (P.A.T.T.) program
  • Pre Prom Presentation at Roselle Park High School
  • Youth (junior) Police Academy

In August of 2016, Det. Medrano was promoted to the Juvenile Detective Bureau.

In respect to personal accomplishments, Det. Medrano is a happily married father of two children. Every free moment outside of work is devoted to coaching various sports in Roselle Park. Det. Medrano leads by example when it comes to competition by competing in Olympic Lifting. As the bronze medalist at the 2016 and 2017 Pan American Open, Medrano keeps the bar high for all of the athletes that he coaches. Det. Medrano feels blessed to be able to use his law enforcement platform to create positive change in his community.
