Monthly Spotlights

School of the Month

Voorhees Middle School

The Voorhees Middle School serves children in grades 6-8 in Voorhees Township, New Jersey, a suburban community located 12 miles east of Philadelphia.  The Voorhees Middle School opened its doors in 1973 and was known as the Upper Elementary School from 1973 to 1980.  In 1995, the building was expanded to include the addition of classrooms, a cafeteria and mini-gymnasium.  Increased enrollment began in 2000 and the demands of regulations arising from the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act required additional classrooms at the Voorhees Middle School.  A building and renovation for future expansion referendum passed in 2000.  The addition of the “B” wing opened in 2003.Today, the school houses more than 1000 6 th  through 8 th  grade students and has over 100 staff members.  We are the sending middle school for the district’s four elementary schools. Our most important goal is to help every student reach their full potential to become life-long learners and contributing citizens of our surrounding community and world.  The Voorhees Middle School works in conjunction with the Voorhees Police Department to bring sixth grade students the Law Enforcement Against Drugs (L.E.A.D.) curriculum to ensure they are empowered with the information necessary to make the right decisions in their lives.

Instructor of the Month

Officer Brenton Prisendorf

Officer Brenton Prisendorf was hired by the River Edge Police Department in November of 2014 and became a L.E.A.D. certified instructor in June of 2015. Officer Prisendorf has a long history of participating in community programs such as serving as a football coach for the New Milford Junior Football League and as a basketball coach for the New Milford Recreation Department. Officer Prisendorf and the three other L.E.A.D. instructors teach over 600 fifth and eighth grade students at Roosevelt Elementary, Cherry Hill Elementary and the River Dell Regional Middle School.

Officer Prisendorf is very supportive of the L.E.A.D. program because it provides the bridge needed to establish the necessary relationship between the Police Department and the students in the community. Officer Prisendorf understands how important it is for the police department to be a part of the community, and it is one of the reasons why he chose to become a police officer. Officer Prisendorf states his experiences during his pro-active patrols allowed him to make a real-world connection with his students in the classroom. In addition to being a L.E.A.D. instructor, Officer Prisendorf serves as an officer in the department’s Patrol Division and as one of the department’s Firearms Instructors
