Indonesia Palm Oil Platform Invites Public Comments on New Sustainability Plan

For six weeks from 1 March, Indonesia's Sustainable Palm Oil Platform (locally known as FoKSBI) is accepting comments from all supply chain stakeholders on the first-ever National Action Plan aimed at addressing barriers to sustainability in the country's vast palm oil sector. This is part of an on-going FoKSBI dialogue, started in 2014 and coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Agriculture, with UNDP GCP support. Already, business, civil society, producers and government have provided input to the plan. Download the Plan. Ecuador Steps Up Efforts to Tackle Deforestation from Agricultural Commodities in Amazon Basin

With the aim of achieving net zero deforestation by 2020, the Government of Ecuador is drawing on resources from both the Global Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility, totalling US$ 54 million, to help tackle deforestation in the Amazon Basin, with UNDP support. A key aspect of this work will focus on multi-sectorial dialogue through five national commodity platforms on livestock, coffee, cocoa, oil palm and non-timber forest products.

Ghana: Cocoa Partnership Extended to 2020

The successful Environmental Sustainability and Policy for Cocoa Production Project in Ghana has now completed its first phase. With positive results including, distributing 800,000 economically valuable timber shade trees and training 9,600 farmers, Mondelez International, UNDP and the Ghana Cocoa Board have agreed to continue their partnership as part of this project until 2020.

2016 Highlights

Launch Event:
Fisheries Platform
The Costa Rica National Fisheries Commodity Platform was launched with a cocktail evening in December 2016. This is part of a Global Environment Facility project on sustainable fisheries, with platforms supported by GCP to come in Ecuador, Indonesia, and the Philippines. The short video above, in Spanish with English subtitles, provides an introduction to this important project.  
Best Practices
In Paraguay the National Soy and Beef Platform released the countyr's first compilation of good agricultural practices. Gathered from producers of all sizes, stakeholders will now define the most critical practices, before agreeing minimum legal standards for sustainable production.
