A message from Amanda

Planning for Backyard Bonanza 2017 is now well underway with this year set to be bigger and better than ever.

This year on Sunday 28 May 2017, McPherson Park will play host to another Backyard Bonanza (aka BYB17). The event will be staged once again by the local communities within Bracken Ridge Ward in conjunction with Bracken Ridge Ward Office and the Bracken Ridge Central Lions Train Day.
This event, firmly rooted in our local community, presents an ideal opportunity for clubs, community groups and other organisations within the Bracken Ridge Ward to get involved, whether through fundraising or promotional activities, staging displays to increase awareness and membership, or provision of a performance group to entertain the crowds.

For those who would like to be involved in BYB17, an Expression of Interest (EOI) form is available for community groups and performance groups via my office. Simply complete the EOI form and return to our event management company, LOUD events, as soon as possible.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for updates on all things BYB17 via the Backyard Bonanza Facebook page.

Out and About
Thank you to all who came and helped celebrate the first anniversary of the Emily Seebohm Aquatic Centre and Bracken Ridge Skate Plaza last month. There was some great talent on display during the skateboarding demos, delicious food served up by our local Pirates Plate food truck, wristbands being made with the North Crime Prevention Team and some of the shelter animals from Animal Welfare League Qld Warra Shelter came across to say a friendly hello before the movie Zootopia screened. The evening was a great way to celebrate the facilities our community has on offer!

A local community hero!
This month I would like to recognize the efforts of Bracken Ridge resident Kate, who will soon be embarking on a 450km journey. In April, Kate will be walking across Spain in a bid to raise $10,000 for Cancer Research.

This is obviously no easy task and Kate has been preparing and training for more than a year now. To read more about Kate's story or find out how you can help her reach that $10,000 goal, follow the below link.
