A message from Amanda

It's hard to believe that 2016 is drawing to a close and Christmas is almost here. It's a great time to unwind and enjoy some well-deserved rest and relaxation (where possible) in preparation for what will no doubt be a busy year ahead.

There will be a number of exciting projects and events happening around the Ward from early 2017. Something in particular to look forward to is the first anniversary of the Emily Seebohm Aquatic Centre. Keep an eye out for details on how we are going to celebrate! There's also a a number of projects on track to be delivered under Council's 16/17 Budget including gym and fitness equipment into some of our local parks, road resurfacing in a number of streets throughout the ward and major drainage works.

A reminder that my School Holidays Activity Calendar is now available.  The calendar includes free and low cost activities in our local area that will keep the family busy these holidays. For a copy, please contact my office prior to December 22nd.

Most importantly though, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a safe and relaxing holiday period.
Out and About
It was great to catch up with Ben and the hard working staff at Bicycle Queensland at their HQ and hear all about their recent ride out to Goondiwindi and back!
I had a lovely morning with Lord Mayor of Brisbane - Graham Quirk at Golden Downs Retirement Resort. It was great to speak with residents about what's happening in our local area and enjoy a delicious morning tea at the same time!
There was plenty of Christmas cheer at our Seniors' Christmas Morning Tea. The  Lord Mayor of Brisbane - Graham Quirk joined me for a morning with residents from our local retirement villages and community groups to enjoy a cup of tea and chat about how they're spending Christmas this year!

This month's hidden gem..
The annual Brisbane City Council bus tours of some of the households entered in the 4KQ Christmas Lights™ competition are on again from Monday 19 December to Friday 23 December (inclusive). Journey through some of the fantastic displays from the much-loved competition all in the comfort of a Brisbane City Council bus. Tours leave from the bus interchange at Westfield Chermside and will travel to northern suburbs only. Each tour departs at 6.45pm sharp and will go for approximately three hours with refreshments stops included. For ticket prices and booking information head to Council’s website

A local community hero!
This month I would like to recognize the efforts of Carseldine resident, James Hansen. James is the coordinator of the Carseldine Bush Crew, a group that formed over 9 years ago to restore the  Cabbage Tree Creek corridor in Carseldine. Now, the group meets monthly to remove weeds from the corridor and plant the native trees best suited to the corridor.

In recent times, James has been a strong voice expressing concern about the State Government's plan to develop the old QUT campus in Carseldine. James has major issues with the loss of flora and fauna this would mean in the local area and the historical significance of some of Carseldine's oldest trees.
