October Review & November Overview

October

The Spectacular Coach Lisa!
We wanted to do a huge shoutout to Coach Lisa and her incredibly talented Junior Elites!  We seen them do roundoff back handsprings,  back tucks, perfect leg form pullovers and back hip circles!  She's doing amazing work and we can't wait to see how her kids do on team!

The Color Run Was A Blast!
Saturday, October 26th the AGOGE program participated in the Color Run. We had a great time and an excellent pay off for all the AGOGE kids who worked so hard!

Halloween Party
On Halloween, TeamBHG hosted a free Halloween event for kids and families to come in and enjoy the festivities in a safe environment. There were costumes, snacks, trunk or treating, as well as games and other kids to play with. It was an absolute blast and we can't wait for next year!

What was the best advice your coach gave you? Why did this help you in life?

“You are the only one who can make it happen,” ~ Coach Vanderlyn
I learned (from my college cross country & track coach) that I create my own destiny. If I want it I have to go and claim it.

What was AWESOME in October?
This month, the AGOGE Kids trained hard for the 5K color run on October 26th! Using Kid’s CrossFit conditioning equipment, their strength and endurance improved weekly!

Speaking of improving weekly, some of my Jr Elites now perform back hand springs, amazing swings on bars, back dismounts on parallel bars (on their own!) and one of my littles almost circles on mushroom! Amazing progress!

What's EXCITING in November?
We are currently developing a new program for kids! It would offer endless possibilities, such as classes, competitions, birthday parties, the list goes on! We will be pre launching this month, and it would make a fantastic addition to TeamBHG. More info to come at a later date! We are so excited to share this with you!!!! Be looking out for promos to guess what it is.

My coach used to always say, "Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades,"  If you're going to go after something, give it 100%!"

What was AWESOME in October?

In October, we began our testing and celebration weeks.  Every three months we test our students to see if they stand ready for the next level, while also celebrating all of our gymnasts for their hard work on developing skills, they make us so proud!

During celebration week, we give out each student’s skill card so you can see what they accomplished, and what they still need to work on. Please make sure that if you missed class during celebration week that you pick up your skill card from your coach.

What's EXCITING in November?
Congratulations to our newest TeamBHG baby Mila Smith!
Coach Laura will return soon from maternity leave!

Speaking of kids! We will have a Kid's Day's In on the following dates: Nov 11th, Nov 27th, and Nov 29th. Kid's Day's In is a great way for your child to get some energy out by playing games, creating crafts and open gymnastics play!

We are kicking things off with our first hosted meet of the season. Our evaluation meet is on Sunday, Nov 17th. We encourage you to come support our team girls as they prep for the beginning of the season.

No instructional classes the 11th, 27th, 28th, and the 29th of November. Gym closed November 27th - Dec 1st, including all Open Gym/Parent's Night Out/Military Appreciation Day.

What was AWESOME in October?

October is always a ton of fun! Between excited kids for the upcoming holiday season, and the colors of fall really showing, around now, your child's crafts become extra creative!

Best of all, October really is our first chance to bring classes together and celebrate. All students and teachers dress up in costumes, share food, read a silly story, and for the grand finale, watch our school pumpkin erupt!

What's EXCITING in November?

November already?! Again, a fun month for the kids and their teachers. We really focus on learning about what each student is thankful for.

Sometimes it's something as simple as "I'm thankful for unicorns." And sometimes, they pull at your heartstrings, "I'm thankful for when mommy reads to me and lays in bed with me until I fall asleep." We love learning about our kiddos and what makes them who they are.

What was the best advice your coach gave you? Why did this help you in life?

CAN’T MEANS WON’T! I was blessed to have the same P.E. coach for six years. He had “ Can’t means won’t “ over his office in big letters. Anytime an athlete said I can’t, he came back with, "Can’t means that you won’t do it, just try and see." In my life I know if I try, most of the time I can.

What was AWESOME in October?

Last month our kids grew in both age and skill. The kids that moved up from a Tod/Fit class to a Kinder class or a Kinder class to a Mighty Mini or Mighty Monster class did an amazing job. Some of the athletes turned five and moved up to a girls or boy's level one class, which is awesome for them.

Speaking of time passing, Fall arrived in full blast. It’s getting darker, colder, and of course wetter. As result, BHG opened up more classes throughout the week to help your indoor sports needs. Our morning classes got big open space in them and the gym isn’t as busy.

What's EXCITING in November?

Finally, welcome to all of the new coaches that we trained the last few months. They’ll help BLG keep your child safe, smile, laugh, and learn gymnastics!

Learn to love the process. Some goals, such as placing at a meet, require lengthy training. The process of training gymnastics routines takes several hours a week for almost 9 months of the year. Meet season is barely 3 months! Gymnasts train so, so much more than they compete. They need to learn to love being in their own gym, with their own coach and teammates, working hard, pushing through the bumps, bruises, and rips, and find joy in their gradual progression.
What was AWESOME in October?

Our spectacular boy's instructional coach, Josh Carter received a promotion at his other job and unfortunately will no longer coach the Boys Instructional Program. It saddens us to see him go, but congratulations to Josh and his exciting new direction in life. With Josh gone, we found a vacuum for another excellent coach, and luckily local talent presented itself…. In our very program!

Ben Ashley, a former Level 10 Team Boys began coaching for us! Ben not only competed at nationals this last spring, but also coaches other students already, making him a perfect homegrown talent. We’re thrilled to have him.

We adjusted the boy's skills checkoff, adding asterixis to mark critical skills in order to increase greater pommel performance in the upper-level boys. Specifically, Mushroom Bucket Circles became asterisked. While this may hinder the advancement of some boys due to underutilization of this incredible mushroom drill, mandating Mushroom Bucket Circles will ultimately yield greater pommel performance and results for our Boys Instructional Program and will enhance your boy's performance!

What's EXCITING in November?

This month, we hope to grow our boy's team prep and junior elite programs. Now’s the perfect time for your son to join the team, if he’s interested chat with his coach!

What was the best advice your coach gave you? Why did this help you in life?

My coaches growing up really taught me a good work ethic. To be a gymnast, you work really hard and while your coaches always ask the best in you. This helped me in life to strive for the best in everything I do. I always want to be the best person I am capable of.

What was AWESOME in October?

October was testing and celebration time!!! It’s always exciting to see what the girls have accomplished. Everyone worked incredibly hard getting new skills, that we had tons of girls move up to the next level!!

I am so proud of all the girls and coaches. We got four new coaches that moved up levels in coaching and we’re so proud of them for their willingness to learn! Thank you Coach Alandra, Coach Lizzie, Coach’s Shannelle, and Coach Galen for stepping up and helping with the upper-level girl's classes!!

What's EXCITING in November?

I am looking forward to all the new girls that get to start in their new levels! They will train new and harder skills, which is always super rewarding and super fun!

Work hard. Have no regrets.

What was AWESOME in October?

On October 19th, we held a team prep tryout, and everyone who attended did a great job!  Team prep will add new members this month following the tryout.

What's EXCITING in November?

In fact, Girls Team Prep grew so much last month, we will add an additional section of beginner team prep! This new class takes place Thursday evenings from 5-7 with coach Kaitley and starts November 7th.  If enrolled in beginner team prep and interested in switching to the new Thursday class, please contact the office.

What was the best advice your coach gave you? Why did this help you in life?

Don't worry what others think of your performance, focus on yourself and how you execute your routine to make YOU happy.

I always put others before myself and using this advice helped me know what is most important when it comes to bettering myself and my success in life and in my career.
What was awesome in October?
Last month, we worked hard on a couple of Bronze and Silver floor routine clinics for the girls to brush up on their dance and really get the choreography down so they feel confident at the mock meet in mid-November. There, the Bronze girls will get to experience a competition setting in front of judges.

The event will also help the Silver-Platinum girls get back into the groove of timed events and being judged closely for technique, presentation, and skill level.

Coach Megan celebrated her birthday with a surprise from some of the Xcel Team Girls.

What's EXCITING in November?

Make-Up practice for the Gold/Platinum group is November 2nd and November 23rd from 8:30a-12:30pm.

What was the best advice your coach gave you? Why did this help you in life?

"If you want, get it."

You can’t just have things in life, you have to work for them. The “fight for it” is something I learned through gymnastics!
What was AWESOME in October?

October, a great month of development and growth for our girls as we work on skills and details. Specifically, our level 2’s developed tons of skills last month! We’re incredibly proud for these little ladies and how hard they're working!

Level 3 thru 5 are making HUGE headway on piecing parts together, getting ready for the Evaluation Meet, November 17th.

Optional Girls are KILLING it! New skills for most and putting them into routines. Very excited to see their hard work pay off.

What's EXCITING in November?

November will be a busy month of continuous prep work as we get ready to host our annual evaluation meet. This meet will give our coaches and gymnasts a great opportunity to see where they stand as we head into this season. Schedule for Evaluation Meet.

Sunday, November 17th at 10:00am
Jr Jo2 & Level 2

Also, November 11th Girls Team Level 4 and Level 5 will practice from 9am - 1pm.

What was the best advice your coach gave you? Why did this help you in life?

It's better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it.
What was AWESOME in October?
This month, our boys have been advancing forward in skill level and competitions. Three of our Boys Team members competed at regional future stars competition in Beaverton OR, congratulations to our boys!

Recently, we continue to train our staff to get the Boys Team even better results! Our team staff attended clinics at Region two Congresses to learn more about our sport.

Unfortunately, Coach Bob Resigned as Boys Team Head Coach and prepared James to Step into his position. James really stepped up to the plate and is going to Colorado Springs to the Olympic Training Center for National future stars and Men's National workshops for Gymnastics education.

He went as far as to even attended with our other coach Mimi, a Washington State Judges Course to become recertified as a Judge, we look forward to their enhanced knowledge of the sport and thank James for the incredible amount of work he's putting in.

What's EXCITING in November?

This month, we’ve began showing full routines in practice to prepare for Evaluation Meet as competition creeps closer. We look forward to getting the absolute best performance out of our boys this year!
