Learn to detect the nuanced flavors of bourbon like a professional taster.
RECIPE: BULLEIT BARREL STRENGTH SPICED CIDER
  • 4 oz Spiced Cider (apple cider steeped with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove adjust to taste)
  • 1 oz Bulleit Barrel Strength Bourbon
  • Garnish with fresh-grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick - or simply top with cinnamon powder
Using a barrel strength or higher proof bourbon in your hot cocktails allows more of the bourbon’s character to come through the other flavors. Also if you have a favorite mulling cider spice blend, feel free to substitute that with your apple cider.

January 9th & 27th • Bourbon Basics

So you enjoy a glass of Bourbon here and there … and you know that it’s important to Kentucky’s history and economy, but there’s so much more to learn about Bourbon!

We’ll start 2019 with an overview of what, exactly, Bourbon is plus take a brief look at Bourbon’s history and how it’s made today. We’ll also cover how to nose and taste Bourbon like a professional and will sample a variety of Bourbons and near-Bourbons to explore the differences among Bourbon styles.

This class will launch our second annual year-long “Bourbon University” with a new theme offered each month. No need to attend them all - mix and match as you like!

We’ll open with the most classic of whiskey cocktails: The Old Fashioned, and ours will be made with James E Pepper 1776 Bourbon.

Pours this month will include:

  • Maker’s Mark Bourbon (wheated)
  • Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon (traditional/low rye)
  • Old Forester 1870 Bourbon (high rye)
  • Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon (very high rye)
  • Peerless Rye (rye whiskey)
  • Angel’s Envy (Bourbon finished)

This class is part of our year-long “Bourbon University” led by Bourbon-Steward in Residence Tim Knittel of Distilled Living with a new theme offered each month. They will be the 2nd Wednesday and 4th Sunday all year. ➡ No need to attend them all - mix and match as you like!

$35 per person, class includes guided Bourbon flights/cocktails and light food. Dinner reservations at Castle Farm Restaurant available for after the class.

We have sad news to share: Addie's at the Woodford Inn has announced that they are closed. It was a sudden and unexpected turn of events that surprised everyone and we are looking for new venues to host monthly bourbon dinners again in the future.
