Kentucky Black Bourbon Guild

RECIPE: MANHATTAN VARIATION #1
Fill tumbler with ice, add:
2 dashes Bitter Truth aromatic bitters
2 dashes Scrappy’s grapefruit bitters
3/4 oz Martini & Rossi sweet vermouth
2 oz Rabbit Hole bourbon
Stir at length, strain over fresh ice and garnish with Mess Hall cocktail cherries (or other quality cocktail cherry.)

Bourbon Cocktails I: Historic and Classic Cocktails
Cocktails were developed on American whiskeys including Bourbon & Rye.
In this class we’ll explore the origin of American whiskey cocktails by focusing on the ‘Classic 5’:
• Old Fashioned
• Whiskey Sour
• Mint Julep
• Whiskey Smash
The Kentucky Castle's Bourbon-Steward-In-Residence (& Bourbon industry insider) Tim Knittel will guide you through basic cocktail construction theory including:
• Spirit + Sweet + Contrast(s) + Accent,
• Techniques: stirring vs. shaking and order of ingredients,
• Working with ice: hard, crappy & specialty ice
• Selecting whiskey for cocktails by flavor profile
You’ll get to taste each type of cocktail and then make your own!
This class is part of our year-long “Kentucky Bourbon School” (previously Bourbon University) led by Bourbon-Steward in Residence Tim Knittel of Distilled Living with a new theme offered each month. They will be the 2nd Wednesday and 4th Sunday all year. No need to attend them all - mix and match as you like!

Advanced Bourbon & Food Pairings • Graduate KY Bourbon School
The two basic philosophies of food & drink pairings and dish construction include complementary flavors and contrasting tastes. In this Graduate KY Bourbon School, we’ll explore in depth how to design pairings with Bourbon taking into account Bourbon’s primary tastes and flavors plus pairing with individual Bourbons’ unique flavor profiles.
Topics will include taste versus flavor, why some pairings work and others don’t, complex pairings and pairing using molecular bridges, plus the basics of Bourbon cocktail construction from a flavor pairing perspective.
GRADUATE KY Bourbon School is a deeper dive into the history, production and enjoyment of Kentucky's signature spirit. No prior bourbon education required however for these events we'll be skipping Bourbon 101 basics and going into advanced topics. You'll be guided by the KY Castle's Bourbon Steward in Residence, Tim Knittel of Distilled Living with over 10 years experience in the Bourbon industry.
$35 per person, class includes guided Bourbon flight and light food.
