The Rise Of A New Type Of Conference
I've spent the first half of this year speaking at conferences across the globe and I've noticed a welcome new trend - the rise of a more creative conference, or even, as in the case of one I spoke at earlier this year in Australia, an "unconference".
If you're looking for some fresh ideas for your next conference, check out this article by conference organizer, Robin Zander on Medium. Zander's main point is that most conferences, even TED style events, keep their audience stationary - even though research proves the value of multi-dimensional learning. Zander, who runs the Design for Dance conference, recommends adding some form of movement to your event. Other suggestions include alternative presentation formats, such as a World Cafe or Innovator Jam.
I was really inspired reading Zander's ideas, and I look forward to incorporating some of them into the next event I run.

Healthcare Marketing as Online Community Building
In a recent article, healthcare marketer, Dan Dunlop, argues persuasively that "much of the marketing generated by healthcare organizations has been, and continues to be, extremely narcissistic. Our ads, brochures, websites and billboards all scream: “Look at us” and “We’re Number One.” There is little regard given to how this resonates (or doesn’t resonate) with the potential patient." Dan proposes that marketers should adopt a community building mindset, in which the patient is an active participant in the marketing. This approach allows for a deeper engagement with an organization's brand.
