27th April 2021

Dear Parents/Caregivers,

As part of our health programme this term, we will be delivering the ‘Sexuality Road’ series of lessons to our students who are in years 5 - 8.

Covering sexuality is a requirement of the New Zealand Curriculum.

  • In years 5 and 6, our students should be able to identify factors that affect personal, physical, social, and emotional growth and develop skills to manage changes.
  • In years 7 and 8, our students should be able to describe the characteristics of pubertal change and discuss positive adjustment strategies.
The Sexuality Road – Discovering Me - is a programme designed for year 5 - 8 primary school students. Each topic is built on throughout the four year programme to ensure that students cover issues relevant to them at an appropriate age. It covers:
  • Changing bodies and feelings

  • Relationships

  • Communication and decision-making

  • Reproduction

  • Support systems

We will be holding an information session on Wednesday 5th May 2021 at 6.00pm. During this time we will present details about what specifically will be covered at each year level and we will also be able to answer any questions that you may have.

This meeting will be held in Room 7. I encourage you to attend so that you can support and discuss your child’s learning at home. Lessons for the students will begin from Monday 10th May 2021,  following the information session evening.
