Macungie Elementary Hosts First Grade Reading Night

On Thursday, January 12, 2017, the first grade teachers at Macungie Elementary hosted First Grade Reading Night. It was a wonderful opportunity for the parents/families of all first graders to learn strategies and techniques which will assist in their child’s reading success this year and in the future.

Shoemaker’s Art Club Paints the Carmike

On Saturday, January 29, 2017, the students of Shoemaker’s 5th grade Art Club painted a mural at the Carmike Cinemas at the Saucon Valley Promenade. Since November 2009, Shoemaker’s Art Club has partnered and collaborated on mural designs with Carmike Theaters. This season’s mural was designed around the Warner Bros. Lego Batman Movie that is out in theaters this February. Come out and see this colorful character-driven mural created by these amazing students!

Macungie Science Classes Learn About the Earth

Mrs. Smith and Mrs. O’Connor’s Macungie Elementary science classes worked on researching processes that change the Earth. This particular group chose how mass movement changes the Earth’s surface.  They replicated a volcano to show the effects on the Earth. They also created a Google Presentation with a plethora of information about mass movement and all the different ways mass movement can affect and change the Earth’s surface. They will be presenting their presentation, along with erupting the volcano, in a few weeks. Great job, kids!

LMMS Team Places at LV MATHCOUNTS ®Competition

The 33rd Annual Lehigh Valley MATHCOUNTS ® competition was held on Saturday, February 10, 2017 at Southern Lehigh High School in Center Valley, organized by the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Engineers. Lower Macungie 8th grader, Geoffrey Klineberg, placed 3rd in the Countdown Round and the Lower Macungie Middle School team placed 3rd in the team competition. Geoffrey and the LMMS team were among 260+ students from 28 schools from Lehigh, Northampton, Monroe, and Carbon Counties who participated in the regional “Olympics of Math” to win individual and team honors.

EPSD Education Foundation is Seeking New Board Members

The EPSD Education Foundation’s Board of Directors is in search of talented volunteer board members with a passion for education. The mission of the Foundation is to enrich, extend and deepen the educational experiences of East Penn School District students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. There are a number of open seats that the Foundation’s Board would like to fill with a mix of committed parents, residents, business people, and community leaders that live in and/or do business in the East Penn area.

Macungie Elementary Holds “Souper” Bowl

The Macungie team celebrated Super Bowl LI in their own special way.  On Friday, February 10, 2017, Macungie Elementary had their own school “Souper” Bowl.  Students and staff wore their favorite sport’s team attire or their team’s colors and brought cans of soup to school. The cans of soup were donated to the local food pantry at Bethel Bible Fellowship Church in Emmaus. Over 500 cans of soup were donated to the food pantry this year. Macungie teachers and students showed support for their favorite teams while helping their community. This was a wonderful opportunity for the children to work with their community and realize that they truly CAN make a difference!

Shoemaker Elementary Honors Couple to Kick-Off Acts of Kindness Week

On Friday, February 10, 2017, Shoemaker Elementary School kicked off “Acts of Kindness” week at their Mustang Meeting.  As part of this meeting, Shoemaker honored Mr. and Mrs. Miller who live in the corner house next to Shoemaker. Mr. and Mrs. Miller have been waving to Shoemaker students on buses every day for over 15 years! Shoemaker recognized them during the meeting with cards and balloons as their way of showing them kindness. Adding to the special day was a performance by PM Kindergarten and the Shoemaker Dance Team. A special congratulations goes out to Mr. and Mrs. Miller on celebrating 68 years of marriage this March!

Eyer Middle School Hosts Water Bottle Fundraiser

Eyer Middle School is hosting a water bottle fundraiser in honor of Sean Boyle, an Eyer 8th Grade Social Studies teacher currently serving the U.S. military in East Africa. Proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to help fund a well through and send a Polaroid camera, film, and batteries to the military base where Mr. Boyle is stationed. This camera will help the East African children form a better self-identity through the simple act of giving them photographs of themselves.

LMMS Student Council Helps Our Community

Student Council at Lower Macungie Middle school has been very busy. They continue to help others who are less fortunate. They bought and donated 27 Thanksgiving meals to help families from LMMS. Through their annual Food and Coat Drive, they collected and donated 1,172 pounds of food to the Second Harvest Food Bank and 17 bags of coats (about 650) to The Caring Place of Allentown and to students at LMMS. During the month of December, they held their annual “Be an Angel” Service Project. Student Council worked in conjunction with the Lehigh County Soup Kitchens and collected and donated items for personal care bags.

Alburtis Elementary Celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Monday, January 30, 2017, the Alburtis Elementary School Eagle Assembly was led by the 4th grade in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Fourth grade students channeled the former leader of the civil rights movement by expressing themselves publicly about what a perfect world might look like to them. The assembly was kicked off with a special student narrated video they created to teach the school about the dream that Dr. King had for our country.

EHS Purse Bingo Scheduled for April to Support Afterball


All prizes from Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Coach, & Vera Bradley,retailing for $225-$448!!

This is the main fundraiser for the Afterball, a party designed to be a safe, fun, alcohol-free alternative for students that want to continue their prom celebration into the night. It is open to all seniors, even if they do not attend the prom.

Shoemaker Community Service Club Sponsors Local Projects

The Shoemaker Community Service Club had a fantastic response in November and December to the Community Service projects that they sponsored. Shoemaker students:

  • Collected 158 coats, 157 hats, 91 pairs of gloves, 4 pairs of boots, 3 snow pants, 1 blanket, and 49 scarves for the Allentown shelter at New Bethany Ministries & the Whitehall Area Food Pantry
  • Collected 153 toys for Toys for Tots

LMMS Receives Top Star Exxon Mobile Grant

Top Star Exxon Mobil presented Lower Macungie Middle School with a $500 check for their Education Alliance Math and Science Grant. Grant money will be used to support STEM learning activities in science classrooms. Congratulations to LMMS students and staff!

EHS Shave for the Brave Scheduled for Friday, March 24, 2017

The 5th Shave for the Brave charity fundraiser, sponsored by the Emmaus Pediatric Cancer Club, will be held on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in the EHS Gymnasium. “Shavees” will voluntarily shave their heads for kids’ cancer research by collecting monetary donations.
