East Penn Board Vacancy

The East Penn Board of School Directors is seeking interested candidates to fill a Board vacancy. Eligible candidates must be a citizen of the United States, at least 18 years of age and resided in the East Penn School District for at least one year prior to appointment. Public interviews will be conducted for eligible candidates at a public meeting on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board room located at 800 Pine St., Emmaus. Successful candidate is anticipated to be appointed at this meeting and serve until December 2017. Applications may be obtained by contacting Janine Allen, Board Secretary, at or from the district website (  Completed applications must be submitted to the Board Secretary no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 3, 2016.

Emmaus High School Hosts Mock Teen Bedroom Challenge

The Lehigh County Office of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Northampton County Drug and Alcohol, and the Center for Humanistic Change offered parents an interesting activity at Emmaus High School’s Meet the Teacher Night on September 15, 2016. A first of its kind mock teen bedroom was set up in the high school’s Multi-Media Room for parents to snoop through. This interactive experience challenged parents and caregivers to try to find the more than 100 hidden items in a child’s bedroom that could indicate student drug use.

Willow Lane's Ink-Readable Writers Win 2016 Scholastic Grand Prize

Willow Lane’s Ink-Readable Writers released their 2016 Scholastic Grand Prize winning Kids Are Authors book on Friday, September 9, 2016. The Ink-Readable Writers wrote a picture book about their good friend, artist, and United Nations Ambassador of Peace, Ibiyinka Alao. This book titled, Ibi’s Fireflies, was inspired by a true story of Ibiyinka’s childhood. This story carries an important message of peace and hope.

Eyer Middle School’s Olympic Ceremony Kicks Off 2016/2017 School Year

Eyer Middle School students started off their 2016/2017 School Year with their triennial WOW themed festivities. This year’s perfectly timed theme is the Eyer Olympics. Opening Ceremonies consisted of students presenting their flags to the entire school, reciting the Eyer Olympic pledge, and Dr. Megan Cannon talking about the mindset of an athlete. Students competed in teams throughout the day at various events such as relays, mechanical bull, Monkey Motion, and an inflatable obstacle course.

Emmaus High School Musicians to Perform with National Honors Ensemble

Two Emmaus High School musicians have been selected as members of the 2016 All-National Honor Ensembles, sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (NAfME).  Julia Bezems and Joel Shimer will join more than 670 of the most musically talented and skilled high school students in the United States to perform at a gala concert on November 13, 2016 in Grapevine, Texas.

EPSD Welcomes New Teachers

On Thursday, August 25, 2016, the East Penn School District held its annual New Teacher Induction. Our new teachers were welcomed by Superintendent, Dr. Michael Schilder, and School Board President, Alan Earnshaw. The day was filled with a morning ice breaker, administrator introductions, a district sponsored luncheon, and professional development. We would like to welcome our new teachers to the East Penn School District!
