José Navas/Compagnie Flak thanks all our precious collaborators for their contribution to the success of the projects carried out this year. It is with gratitude that we wish them, our loyal audience, our partners, and you, dear readers, a happy holiday season. We look forward to seeing you in 2017 at the premiere of a new company work!
José Navas coaching at EDCMTL
José Navas will be coaching at the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal (EDCMTL) from January 24 to February 10, 2017. He will teach students in their second year excerpts from his choreography Miniatures. The results of this collaboration will be presented for an audience on the evening of February 15.
The Last Song presented in Austria
The video The Last Song by Benny Nemerofsky Ramsay, in which José Navas plays a vocalist undergoing transformation, will have its premiere and be presented from November 18, 2016, to January 7, 2017, as part of the exhibition Une autre voixat the Tiroler Kunstpavillon, in Austria. With gestural control and a sensitive interpretation, the dancer reproduces a baritone singing a Vivaldi aria and experiencing a vocal crisis, his voice returning from a man’s to a child’s.
The Rites adventure continues in 2017!
José Navas has successfully launched his Quebec tour of Rites, performing first at Théâtre La Rubrique, in Jonquière, then at Théâtre de la Bordée, presented by La Rotonde, in Quebec City. The verdict of the press and the public is unanimous : "the vulnerability of the continuous movement goes hand-in-hand with the grace of a creator at the height of his artistic powers" (CinémaLe clap, Québec, 2016). What's more, after each performance, José Navas extended the magic of the moment by conversing with the spectators, already won over. After the holidays, Rites will be presented in Sainte-Thérèse and Montreal before the tour continues in Belgium and The Netherlands.
