Spotlight:
Board Members
in Action

ARC, Inc.'s Board members make so much happen behind the scenes here - and that is on top of being leaders in their respective fields!

This month, we are proud to share news of a major accomplishment for Board member Christina Swarns, Litigation Director for the NAACP's Legal Defense Fund. Christina is lead counsel for Duane Buck, a man who has spent almost 20 years on death row in Texas. His sentence came as the result of an incredible set of circumstances: his own defense team had utilized an expert witness who stated in court that Mr. Buck was more likely to be dangerous in the future because he is black.

After years of effort from Christina and many others (including our own Board President, Jim Marcus), the U.S. Supreme Court agreed last month to hear Mr. Buck's case. Oral argument will likely take place later this year.

From Christina:

"Duane Buck's case offers the United States Supreme Court a critically important opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to a fair criminal justice system, free of racial bias, and to remind the lower courts that they cannot turn a blind eye to the profoundly corrupting effect of such evidence."

Thanks to Christina - and our entire Board - for all the ways you fight for justice. Click here to read more about the Duane Buck case.
