Equal Justice Works Fellowship

Do you know a 3L or recent law school graduate who dreams of making a difference?

ARC, Inc. is actively seeking applicants for the Equal Justice Works Fellowship for the fall 2016 application process.

We welcome proposals from applicants that will help defense teams engaged in death penalty and juvenile cases with the laborious task of life history investigation. For interested applicants who do not have a well-developed idea, we have created a project that focuses on navigating the collection of publicly available records related to housing, environmental toxins, law enforcement agencies, and other institutions that would be responsive to Public Records Act or the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter and resume to Maya Garza. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. Click here for more information on the EJW Fellowship program.

Congratulations to our friends in Delaware!
State's Death Penalty Struck Down

This Tuesday, the Delaware Supreme Court ruled that the state's death penalty is unconstitutional, bringing us one state closer to a country where the death penalty has been abolished.

Prior to this ruling, Delaware was one of the few outlier states in which the judge bore the ultimate responsibility for sentencing. Under that system, a judge could override a recommendation of a life sentence by the jury, which the court has now ruled to be a violation of the Sixth Amendment.  Read more.

Congratulations to all who worked toward this important decision!
