When the team at ARC, Inc. met this morning, each of us voiced the concerns shared by so many about the direction our criminal justice system may take in the coming days. This week, we have seen the death penalty affirmed and even restored. We have seen retribution become a policy priority.
What our team also expressed was commitment: Commitment to fight for our clients with everything we have, to share with others what we know about the impact of trauma and discrimination, to equip more defenders to join our effort, and to continue to seek progress toward a justice system that is rooted in empathy, mercy, and equity.
This is a long path to change. There will be setbacks along the way both now and in the future. But we believe that if we keep our commitment, we can create the kind of deep-seated change that is not vulnerable to an election cycle.
Your support is needed now more than ever. As we move into the next few weeks, there will be several chances to support ARC, Inc.'s work, and I hope that you will look for these opportunities and take advantage of them. If you want to do something right now
, though, here are two simple ways you can help:
- Support our work financially. When we have the support of individuals like you, we are less dependent on shifting governmental funding priorities for the resources needed to ensure that our clients receive the best defense possible. Become a recurring donor of any amount to help us continue our work.
- Spread the word. The more visible our work is, the more power we have to create change. Ask your friends, family, and co-workers to sign up to receive our monthly newsletters and learn how to get involved.
Together, I know that we can build a system that reflects these values.
Thank you for all that you do to support this movement,
