Dear LACCD Family, Colleagues and Friends:
As we approach Thanksgiving and our year-end Holiday Season, I want to express my personal sense of gratitude and how thankful I am for all you have done during 2020 in service to our students, our communities and higher education goals. This year has been particularly difficult with the COVID-19 pandemic, yet your dedication, resilience and flexibility have been inspirational in the face of this crisis.
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite times of the year. It is a time for families to gather, to assess our year and to give thanks for our bountiful blessings. This year, we may be doing this online, by Zoom or by phone, but we are still blessed to be able to make those connections with our loved ones and friends no matter how it occurs.
Looking back, together we successfully made a monumental, historic shift in how we deliver on our promise of education to all. We have taken substantial steps to help protect our personnel and students during the pandemic. We have provided millions of dollars in emergency financial aid, technology and food cards to help our students. We have stood together, united in purpose, in the face of tremendous adversity with resolve not to be defeated.
I am hopeful for a brighter tomorrow. The progress of available, new vaccines and new leadership at the White House may lead to local assistance to our states, schools and colleges and students. While we are not “out of the woods,” I am tremendously proud of you, our institutional resilience and our singular focus on the success of our students.
LACCD Proud. You are the best of us.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, our College Presidents and the District Executive Team, I wish you and your families a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving! Please be safe.
Francisco C. Rodriguez, Ph.D.
